my family has an SUV; and so do most of the families I know - it's not ALL status symbol (we drive a Toyota) - a lot of the folk have to carry around family and the 4x4 or AWD is an added bonus for Calgary roads in the winter.
granted that they are prone to rollovers, but yeesh... this could apply to almost any vehicle. "oh crxs are too light, shouldn't drive them cuz you could wipe out easily in winter"; "rwd cars are bad b/c they are prone to oversteer..."

as long as SUVs are a big seller in N.America, companies will keep selling them and ppl will keep buying them. big whoop; can't do anything to stop them. most ppl actually feel they are SAFER in an SUV than in a car. (my parents both bought the SUV for this very reason).

MOST IMPORTANTLY every time you get in a seat of a car or motorcycle (passenger or driver) you are putting your life at risk. I have ridden in an SUV pretty much every day for the past 5 or so years... no accidents or anything, just got the first fender bender in a parking lot two days ago...

If the driver is going faster because he's in a truck, he's a dumbass. That's got nothing to do with SUV design...
A lot of cars are driven as status symbols: limos, Bentleys, Maybachs, hell you see how many people overbadge their car (Type R I swear! ) to make it look 'special'... not just SUVs.

Those same grooves also evacuate water on wet roads, which is what you need. 1/8th of an inch wider grooves in a tire will not drastically affect handling... maybe on an F1 car but on an H2?

I don't see how you can build a window high up? You mean, like higher on the truck? Well, they go to the roof like most vehicles...
If you are tailgating someone so close that you can't see around them, back off idiot... And you can't see over other cars anyway unless you're in an SUV!

Figures for one state in one month in one year has nothing to do with general stats... just one bad month for SUV drivers I suppose.

A Maybach weighs friggin 120456 pounds, that doesn't stop it from doing well in handling tests...

BTW if you live in Florida or even NC here snow is kinda uncommon... if you live in Canada or NYC they come in rather handy!

My dad autopsied a couple that rolled their Escalade at 20 miles an hour....seatbelted in and everything....statistically....down there...those full sized GM SUV's are brutal for their owners. There was a static collapse of 15 inches in the roof, I wouldnt play tennis with the pillars in those things!
