    Question Tire recommendations

I bought my Protege new in 2001 and it still has the stock tires on it (Bridgestone Potenzas - P195/55R15s). They're getting worn and I'll need to replace them soon. Does anyone have a recommendation for a good set of tires (brand) that give good durability and road handling? I'd rather not buy the same tires again - very expensive.

    Thanks in advance,
    - Bodrey

I just bought a set of Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s 225/50/16 and I am VERY happy with them.

Not sure about this but I have heard good reviews. Strictly a performance tire but, ahem...Cooper has a new set of tires out that are W rated only. Supposed to be really good according to some porche guys I was talking to, well priced too. Might want to check those out unless you want all season.

Durability and handling are almost direct tradeoffs - softer compounds have better grip but wear faster. Kumho's are good choices from a price perspective but the Ecsta and Ecsta Supras will wear down fairly quickly. I don't think you'll be unhappy with their handling though

i just put Michelin Hydroedge tires on my 98 escort.

They are great tires! Not bad for the price and they have very deep tread. Not a good tire for winter mind you. But if your just looking for a summer/srping kinda tire then I definately reccomend them!!!

no such thing. performance is inversely proportional to treadwear. all u can do is find a good compromise.

u also didnt mention anything about:

    -seasonality
    -wet performance
    -comfort and road noise
    -price range

I should have clarified a few things...

I'm looking for all season tires. Road noise is not a factor 'cuz I'll just turn up my stereo... : ) The best price I found on the tires I have now is $157 per. I'd be willing to pay up to $100 per for a good set. A lot of people have recommended the Kumho tires but 1badPT says they wear fast. Which of you are actually using the tires you're recommending on Proteges?

711s are probably a better tire for u than the 712 cuz of treadwear.
