We have an S80 T6... it's ridiculously fast (at least for a Volvo) and the interior is really sweet. It's got a built-in phone and navigation and all this stuff. So sweet. I've heard a lot of really good things from R&T based on their review...

I went to look at it. It feels pretty small for me. The interior fabric wasn't too impressive. The center console, though, was uber cool. The Haldex AWD is identical to the VW 4motion and TT Quattro. However, it is not a symmetric AWD system.
Overall, I think the car is a good value. If I was considering a new first car, I'd give the S40 a whirl. Wish Volvo will make an S40R
