    Default Real Estate question

I am considering taking up a career in real estate. A good family friend offered me a chance to work with her as a partner. And if I decide to work on my own- then she still said she would support me and help me in every way possible.

My course starts in January, so by mid-March I should have all of my licenses, etc and be ready to embark in my new career.

So, my question to you guys (out of pure curiosity) is, in your opinion, what is the most recognized name in Calgary's real estate market?

I know I am missing a few, but those, for the most part are the main ones in this city right now.

Im assuming this is residential real estate...none of these companies are necessarily better than eachother but the larger ones such an century and remax will give you more coverage and make it easier for you to get your name out. My dad is a commercial Business Broker and real estate developer, he used to be part of a firm and started as just a regular realtor, but hated working for someone so he then bought a coldwell banker franchise, got rid of that and got a royal LePage franchise. According to him franchises are nothignn but a waste of money so he got rid of royal Lepage and started his own commercial real estate firm...Mike Dandurand Realty inc....if you know what the hell youre doing you can make an unspeakable amount of money goodluck!!!

Yes, it is residential real estate. And yes, the bigger ones will give you more coverage. I didn't mean to imply that one company might be better than another.

CIR realtors is currently the largest independent real estate company in Canada. I like that because the monthly dues a realtor must pay to the broker for the franchise name can be expensive. Case-in-point Royal LePage and Re/Max.

Maxwell Realty is a Calgary company. Launched in 1999. But, it is also now a franchise.

I was just wondering out of curiosity what people see as being the most recognized in their eyes. It also depends what area and community you live in. Some companies have a larger share of the martkets in those communities.

I know owning your own company is the way to go, but I want to start out with a known company first, then maybe in the future branch out on my own. Plus, I have to take a Real Estate Broker's course to own my own company or operate a franchise. I guess it depends what franchise though. There is a few brokers in Calgary right now that own a few franchises (eg. Ted Zaharko has 3 Royal LePage branches).

But, thank-you for the advice and well wishes Redlyne

realtors should be the next ones in line to get shot, right after lawyers.

Do something meaningful with your life instead

Apparently I deserve to die. Because if I didn't go into real estate, then I would be going into the legal profession

Yup. I figured it would be Re/Max. I will actually be starting out at Royal LePage, the Lake Fraser Dr. branch.
