Default Official 2004 World Cup of Hockey Thread

Well training camp has already opened and Canada lost its first exhibition game against the U.S.A 3-1. Not a big deal considering its exhibition and the top line for Canada didn't even play. Looks like the U.S.A. lost Leapold in the first game as well and right now he is listed day-to-day (hopefully its not serious for Calgary's sake).

Canada's 2nd exhibition game is tonight against the U.S.A. again and then Saturday is the final exhibition game against Slovakia. I've been searching like crazy to find out if any of the exhibition games are being televised but I can't find any info on it. If anyone knows about this please post.

I have mixed feelings about Lecavalier, St. Louis, and Richards simply because they were on the team that robbed the cup from us. But on the other hand, I'm glad they're representing Team Canada, especially Lecavalier! Hahaha!

I missed the first exhibition game with US, but I caught the second one. And I missed the first two periods of the Slovakia, but the third was pretty fast paced and exciting.

I really think Lemieux shouldn't be playing on the first line or even playing in this tournament at all. I don't think he has what it takes anymore to get it done. Plus I don't think Lemieux should be put in the Richards/St.Louis/Lecavalier line. That line works so well together and now they break it up.

Plus another thing I don't like is having Pat Quinn as a coach. He out right sucks. He can't get his Toronto team anywhere close to the cup and Vancouver was his closes ever he will ever come to the cup (sorry I just hate quinn). Why didn't we name the Canadian coach who took the Canadian team to the Stanley Cup finals? Because by far Sutter was the better coach in the 2003/2004 season (for Canada) and that's who should be coaching.

Didn't name Sutter because can you imagine players like St Louis, Lemieux, Lecavalier, Richards, Niedermeyer, Jovo, etc. playing an up-tempo hit everything give it 200% game?

They'd hate it and they wouldnt do it. I'm not a fan of Quinn either, but you can't deny the guy knows how to handle the "stars" PLUS who was the coach that won us gold in Salt Lake again?

    Don't be such a homer.

No way... Lemieux isn't the 1990s Mario but he's still the Super Mario. He's still got the hands, insane skill and vision. Just gotta hope the rest of his body is alright. It's still up in the air as to what line he should be playing on but there is no doubt as to him being on the team and as the captain.

Hey, let Quinn coach all he wants. I'd rather have Sutter focusing on the Flames even if there won't be hockey until January.

Do you even watch hockey (other than the playoffs because of Calgary)? Lemieux is still the best player in hockey.

I think eb0i should be banned from this thread.
his whole post was just.... ridiculous.

Why didn't we name the Canadian coach who took the Canadian team to the Stanley Cup finals?

Because Gretzky and Co. decided to name the coach who took Team Canada to the Gold in 2002 instead.

And as for Lemieux, sure he's not fast on skates anymore and sure he's not the strongest player on the ice but he sure as hell can stick handle, pass, and he's a genius on ice!

Maybe they should of sent all Canadian members of the Calgary Flames to play. They would have won for sure.
