Default I need a Honda Crank Pulley Holder (H22/H23 timing belt)

I've got my engines side by side and need to do this swap ..

I'm doing the timing belt on the H22 and want to put the manual tensioner from the H23 on the H22 ..

but first, the dreaded crank pulley bolt has to come off ..

partsource suggested the ghetto method of filling cylinder1 with rope but I like my valves just the way they are ..

Anybody know where I can rent/buy this tool ???

shouldn't need one if the flywheel is on the car. there are many ways to hold it (the flywheel)

if your trannys on the car, just take off the cover underneath and stick a punch in there to hold it

the proper honda crank pulley holder is like 600 bux

$600 dollars#!*%*#@ thats nuts. I've heard upwards of $100-$150 US .. The flywheel is on one engine but both of them are out on the ground sitting side by side.

Only one has the transmission & flywheel attached...

Can you give me a description of what would work for holding the flywheel? Do I leave the transmission on the block?

This bolt is put on with 700lbs torque.

Stock honda crank pulleys are torqued at 130 lb/ft.

If the tranny is still on the car, look underneath where it bolts up to the motor. There is a flywheel cover that can be removed. Take it off, get a chisle punch and jamb it in so the flywheel won't move as you remove the pulley bolt.

If the tranny is off the motor, get a small 6mm or so punch, get a friend to stick it thru one of the holes in the flywheel againsed the block, turn it until it catches on some webbing or something behind. Now remove the pulley bolt.

I've changed the T-belt on a H22, I looked for the tool every where, but just ended up making my own by welding a piece of 1-2"HSS on a metal bar, it was still a challenge though. I know you can buy one a Honda I orderd one but never picked it up, I think it was $100+/-

I tried sticking something in the flywheel but that didn't work, it just kept slipping out

The Crank bolt is really tough to pull off if its your first time.

I used a very thick screwdriver to hold the flywheel in place, and a friend used a MASSIVE metal bar (about 1.5meters long) to help pull it off.

Two Mastercraft 1/2 inch extensions broke, and we had to use a 1" ratchet and extension to open it. Worst part of the timing belt, undoubtedly, was the crank bolt.

If you could that'd be just awesome !! I'd love you forever.

Beyond has been such a huge help .. Mclaren has me holed up in his garage, Ancient let me test drive H22, Finboy lent me an engine lift .. if you could lend me this I might mess my pants

hmm using a punch or a flat head screw driver to jam into the flywheel isnt a good idea. It will work, but i've seen and heard some major horror stories with cracked/broken tranny casings or chipping a tooth. just a word of caution.

That was one of my concerns, but if you have someone hold it firmly enough, it works. Short of buying a pulley holder or other expensive machine, what do you suggest?

Don't jam it up, I've seen punches bend! I have a 1/2" impact with 625 ft/lbs in reverse and it can't do the odd one.. So i built this.

Here's the ghetto methods so far ::

Drill a hole in the crank pully large enough to put a bolt in and anchor it somehow with a piece of metal to keep it from turning.

Put a bunch of rope in Cylinder 1 and the crank wont be able to turn because the piston wont be able to lift.. (uhm .. thanks partsource for that suggestion, but I like my valves fine - and my rods straight)

vice grips on the flywheel, cloth/fat screw driver on the flywheel ..

chain wrench on the crank ..

when the engine is in the car, hooking up the socket/ratchet, up to the crank pulley and starting the car (if you do this, which seems feasable, DISABLE THE GAS/SPARK)

this one made me laugh, leave the belts on and tighten it up REAAAL good .. then try ...

Doesnt seem like I can get the tool (Hook me up Gspotracer!!) so I'll be trying the flywheel trick.

Please don't try any of the above methods. Not a single one seems at all safe.
