I would like to know what type of performance parts will boost horse power. Like for example will a new header, or a racing intake, and the like boost horse power?

I don't think those would help very much.

In reality, nothing is going to 'boost' you horsepower but there are ways to 'free up' horsepower. Basically, you're trying to remove as many of the bottlenecks and restrictions as you can to let the engine work as efficiently as possible. Unfortunately, an intake, headers, exhaust etc. aren't going to gain you very much bang for the buck but they are often some of the first modifications people do because they are relatively cheap and allow you to move towards a forced induction system where you can get a REAL boost in horsepower. Read the forums and research this question some more because it has been asked a million times by every new enthusiast on the scene.
Altezza taillights for sure.
what do u drive?
I'm guessing a 97 Mirage since that's what's under his drivers profile.Originally posted by Will@STRD

an aftermarket intake is junk when u switch to FI cuz of the need to use boost piping in its place, a header will be junk on a turbo setup cuz of the need for a turbo manifold, and na exhausts are generally smaller than turbo exhausts.Originally posted by davidI

i think most ppl do i/h/e cuz they are simple, bolt-on mods that make the car a bit more peppy, louder, dont affect reliability, and are easier on the wallet.
I know a guy who gained 14 HP from putting a header on his prelude si (h23 engine).
Seems like a pretty good bang for buck to me.
This is also in combination of intake/exhaust ... 2 1/4" piping all the way back...
Sure bolt on exhaust / intake combinations are good for gaining some horsepower but keep in mind... loud is NOT cool. Who wants a car that sounds like a motorcycle ? ... not to mention th eloss in quality of your stereo .. trying to take hot girls around and you cant even have a conversation in your car etc etc.
Real power is in boost, though.

Oh yea, I also met Doris..

gotta disagree with you there...although true that i/h/e combos are just freeing up horsepower, there are of course mods that will boost horespower...short of FI you have to open up the engine to do pretty much all of them though(high comp pistons and the like)...Originally posted by davidI

but yeah...for your money it's all about the altezzas, then people will see your car driving down the street and be all like "check out that tight whip yo"
You're correct there! The only loud that I like is the loud that my Mustang with 2 baffle flowmasters makes. Not the hondas with the stupid motor cycle sounding exhaust junk!Originally posted by yohan4ws

How is an aftermarket intake junk? Your aftermarket cone intake will bolt up to the turbo compressor inlet... the chargepipe begins at the turbo compressor oulet... goes usually into a intercooler and then makes its way to the intake manifold. So an aftermarket intake is not a waste of money...Originally posted by GTS Jeff

To be honest with you corey_dueso.... the only thing thats a waste is listening to most of the people on these boards.... I have come to realise that most of the information you recieve on the internet is either
A) incorrect and pulled from a magical place between two cheeks
or
B) Partial info that was gathered from a source and is skeud so that you get a messed up version of reality
You shouldnt ask people what to do.... read and decide for yourself. You can pick up one of the highschool auto shop books for about 50$.... they will teach you anything and almost everything you need to know.
That should be your first mod
im not talking about the $30 filter, im talking about the entire intake piping system which is useless after turbocharging. learn some intelligence.Originally posted by Owned 2

I know you can stroke, bore, deck, port till your food stamps run out but this guy was just talking about bolt ons so that's what I was referring to.Originally posted by Go4Long

Jeff, you make a good point about i/h/e not necessarily being a move towards FI - I guess I didn't clarify very well. I just meant that a lot of people will start modding with the bolt ons that lend towards FI. Obviously a header is useless but a cone type air filter, 3" exhaust, injectors etc. can become an issue that must be addressed before tossing on a turbo.
