    Default Russia gets Terrorized

Russia is being attacked almost daily

1st- 2 planes explode in mid air minutes apart. - 89 killled
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3596354.stm
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3607886.stm

2nd- Car bomb goes off outside a Moscow subway station. - 10 killed
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3615970.stm

3rd - 17 Armed men and women seize a school in southern Russia (near Chechnya), holding 200 hostage. - None dead yet
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3618606.stm

But of course, watching CNN, you wouldn't even know that other places in the world were having terrorist problems, or even that there were other places in the world.

I just went to the CNN website and the first thing I read was:

    Deaths in Russia School Attack

Four people are killed as armed attackers stormed a school in southern Russia and take at least 100 people hostage, Russian media say.

yes, there is a little link. Try going to news.bbc.co.uk. also, try watching CNN. this whole week has been RNC. VERY little else. What im trying to point out is that imagine if just ONE of these things had happended in the US, and imagine the coverage global media would give it. My point, other than russia is getting a raw deal right now, is that Americans dont give 2 shits about things outside of their country.

I'm glad they arnt reporting the airline bombings, the last thing we need is for people to be afraid of flying again.
You start with a bag full of luck and an empty bag of experience. The trick is to fill the bag of experience before you empty the bag of luck.

the reason it doesnt get much coverage is because there is not a lot of information.

the russian media and government doesnt like to release details about their own shitty situations...

look at: afghanistan, the kursk, that theatre hostage taking, etc etc etc

i dont know man, there are daily updates on bbc news, and cnn international is also covering it. i started this thread for 2 reasons, 1, to let people know what was happening if they didnt already, and 2 to point out that news in the united states is very domestic and doesnt show much international news

    shit went way wrong....

    official statement from the government

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/3626190.stm
Head of the Federal Security Service for North Ossetia, Valery Andreyev
I would like to note that we were not planning to use any force.

We were planning to continue negotiations in order to secure the release of the hostages.
what i can peice together, they arranged to release the bodies of those who they had killed at the beginning of the siege, then the roof over the gym exploded (either from the bombs they said they planted, or from the military). The hostages try to escape and the terrorists then start shooting them. the special forces then raids the school to attempt to save the hostages. Some terrorists escape and hold up in a house and fight with the military. unconfirmed reports of terrorists being captured, terrorists escaping with children, and terrorists being wiped out.

This is pretty disgusting, especially on behalf of the Russian government. This is the second time (in a row) that they have escalated a hostage situation to this point. I think that the Chechens have no real background for their claims of sovereignty, but the way the Russians have met these challenges is completely wrong.

I like Putin because he's a 'don't take shit' kinda guy unlike our chicken shit leaders (yeah you Martin and Cretien). The theatre thing got fucked up but did they really have a choice? The screw up was not giving the antedote earlier because they didn't want people to know they used nerve gas. I would like to think they didn't intitate this, especially with children involved and the heat they got last time.

I agree - Putin's 'no bullshit' approach is commendable, but hundreds of people died for this...mostly school children, which is kind of hard to take. All for him to look like a tough guy.
