Yup I'm in the process of becoming broke. $723 for my first semester!!!! I'm taking first year engineering at UofC, and yes I did buy new. I figure if the bookstore buys them back at 50% of the new price and resells them for 75% of the new price, then I can keep mine in good condition and sell them for 60-70% privately. Either way I'll at least make half of it back.
I had to buy all new books $650.00 bucks gone. Hopefully they'll be put to good use this semester. All the teachers told me that I needed the books. Oh well, i'll get to sell them all back next year because they'll be using them for the winter semester!!!
I just got an email saying that my OPMA book was wrongly priced at $25 and that it should have been $105. I guess I lucked out there.
Other than that, I did really well this year. Only about $275 for four classes.

broke~! and on my way to having to prostitue my body on the streets to buy more books and supplys!... what ever you do dont goto SAIT they scam everything out of you...
take the drive down to leth, my books for 4 classes were 425 and i saw in calgary would have been over 600 for the same books
I think for 3 out of 5 I gotta buy new. I think I can buy 2 books used. I'm not gonna buy them all yet until a couple weeks into classes. I just hope the prof's notes are good enough so I don't need a text book.Originally posted by eb0i

$600 on books this semester, damn
sig deleted by moderator, because they are useless
Damn i basically lost all the money i earned over summer paying tuition and buying books
Damn U of C
Yeah U of C is retarded. They say the bookstore is suppose to help students save money, but they probably mark up the books so much. They are probably raking in mad cash.
well u of c is one of the most expensive schools to attend
which is bs if u ask me cuz we're not even ranked that well
arggg.
mine are around 600 something and i can't get old books cuz they changed the editions so it has to be the newest
i thought i had some cheap books cuz wheni went to the bookstore, the books were around 26 bucks.. then i looked again and realised there were around five to buy for one class
arggg!
I dunno, they say how crappy of a university U of C is, but the engineering facutly seems pretty good.
the ranking system is BS and they rank on just a specific faculty as well.
Now i'm not defending the U of C, because I've had my share of bad profs and courses but I'm just saying that the ranking system is really not that good of a system.
haha, I'm so glad that I don't have to spend money at that shithole that they call a university! That place is so over priced. I mean they keep fucking raising tuition every year and changing the books for classes so you can't reuse them!! haha, fuck the system and go photocopy the books, go to staples, they charge something like 5 cents per page!
Yay for being finished!!!
How about:
1. Buy used
2. Split the costs with a buddy (sharing doesn't work)
3. Spend sometime at Staples photocopying off a buddy who bought a new one
4. Skip the book and use other resources i.e. internet, class notes(I know this doesn't apply to some courses)
I haven't bought a new book in awhile

Shit, there's only 49 users here, I doubt we'll even break 100
I remember some guy forgot the photocopying 'keylock' (free copies) and we just photocopied every chapter we needed.
And sharing is great, you study better and you're motivated to study.
