    If you want to play around with the practical aspect, you can always use Stockhouse Canada (www.stockhouse.ca). It's an easy way to play around without actually using your own money. That way you can get the hang of it before risking actual funds.

    We play around with it at work sometimes, making various plays just to see how they would turn out - mostly because we can't make the investments ourselves.

    I'm pretty sure RBC's Action Direct is the cheapest online brokerage. My brother is the Manager of Action Direct for Alberta, NWT, and Prarie Provinces. I personally use RBC's Dominion Securities (DS) who I am also currently trying to get a job with (except i just accepted a position at BMO).
