So I go to Crappy Tire to buy tranny fluid for my Prelude (5 speed). I don't see any mnual tranny fluid on the shlef so I ask one of the guys (he happens to be the manager). He told me to put 10w30 in the tranny. Is this alright or what?

its ok, but its better to just go to any Honda dealership and buy some MTF.
Yup, honda is like that, 10w30 in almost all of their manual tranny's
i have alot of hockey sticks
Whoa..ur guys tranny fluid is light, I just put full synthetic 75w30 in mine, and in my rear differential

Well imagine if instead of writing that letter to the editor, she just posts on a car forum for car enthusiasts. That's Kritafo.
You can, but you shouldn't do that. Tranny fluid is thin and 10w30 is thicker, so beware. Stick to putting tranny fluid in the transmission and 10w30 oil in the engine.
Until recently, honda didn't even have a MTF. They all recommend regular 10w30 motor oil. Check your manuals.

Wow, that is thin.
Although, I considered running 15W50 in my transmission during the -40 weather. The 75W-90 synthetic was just too damn thick to even drive.

why not go for redline mtl?
thats crazy thin. VW's generally run a heavy gear oil. I run 75W90 (Redline MT90).

Yep, it's very different. I once helped my friend change his clutch on his golf, and the oil was like thick syrup. Strangely, Hondas for years and years just used regular motor oil as they did not have a manual transmission oil developed.Originally posted by Ben

When I had my Lude I used fully synthetic Motul 5w40 300v sportbike oil. It made a lot of sense to me as the Motorcycle oils have transmission additives so they survive gearboxes better.
My manual just said to use good ol 10w30 tho..

2L of Honda MTF.
It says 2.1L in the manual, but I just used 2.
and Honda MTF is 10w30.
Just for the sake of my own curiosity, how would I find out the weight of my transmission fluid? Mine uses ATF+4 which I know is a very light synthetic.
