Default How do you delete files that wont let you delete them?

I needed new music so i caved and used Limewire. I haven't used any of those programs for a while because they have a lot of spyware and fuck up my computer.

I have a few songs on there that wont play and wont delete. When i right click on it, there is no delete option. it only has open, open with, send to, etc. I even tried rebooting in safe mode, and i still cant delete them. I cant move them to other folders either

    WHO DO I DELETE THEM???

    thanx
    Al

Did you try deleting them from the actual folder...like it would be 'My Shared Folder' for Kazaa. Not really sure though

Is Limewire running in the background or any other sharing program?? If so, they maybe being shared, and preventing you from deleting them.

this is a good trick for any of u trying to rid of malware quickly. if the file is being used u can't delete it.. so rename it. then restart. and now the file obvoiusly can't be referenced as it has a different name so u can now delete it .

Please post more information as to what message comes up when you try to delete them? Is your file system NTFS by chance? I have an intchy feeling it may have to do with file permissions.

ok, the files are NOT being shared, i deleted limewire and all components, no message comes up when i hit delete, nothing happens. It wont let me rename the file either. There are about 20 files that this is happening to. I have no idea how to get rid of them.

where can i upload pics so i can post a pic on here of what i get when i right click?

Usually if the file is being used or cannot be deleted you cannot rename it either...so your trick wont work as well as you think

    that trick wont work.
    the best way is:

create a blank txt file and save it identically as the malware file, including the extension. copy and paste it to where the malware file is so that it will replace it.

yah . try pressing DELETE on the keyboard when the file is highlighted :P ..

OR if the file is for some reason being used then it's unusual the file can't be renamed . unless u don't have administrator priv for ur account . anyways here this is a great tool. .....

i put it temp up on my website to dl: http://atomic.digitalcreation.net/exchange/HandleEx.exe

when u run it, select VIEW -> View DLL's (or CTRL-D)
then you can press Search -> Find (Ctrl-F)
and enter the filenames you cant' delete

it will show you what process is using those files. if it's adware then something liek Adaware or Spybot will help u . but to ensure it's not malware then post your results . good luck

those icons look like media files :P . unless u got owned running a version of winamp between 3.0, 5.0-5.04 ..

you could boot in safe mode and delete it from there
IIRC safe mode is pressing F8 or F12 when booting the computer?
