    Default Local Rock Crawl

there was a local Rock Crawl october 2nd in calgary here, down at federal metals in the SE. I showed up to this thing... expecting to be one of the smaller trucks.. as i was, but i never imagined the course to be so brutal to look at. turned out i made it twice as far as expected and had a blast getting there. I did break how ever, but it was worth it for how far my little jeep made it!

and yes due to i being a organize compitition i did have to wear a helmet, as might some of you point out,

Cool pictures. Some rigs are designed so the half-shaft will go before the diff frags. Do you run the welded diff in town or is this just a trail rig?

Locked diffs put great stress on the axles. Looking at that "mark" in the center of the shaft, I won't be surprised if your axle had already twisted quite a bit before it finally broke.

Have you looked into Superior Axles?

superior is expensive because it's both through and induction hardened. Also, their splines are rolled, not hobbed like everyone else.

on semi-floating axles, it really sucks to have an axle break on the trail. sometimes it's nice to add a little extra insurance.

its not so bad on the semi floating axels if they are flanged.. but because the diff in my truck is a 'c-clip' axel they just walk the tire out.
