Hey guys I'm doing a trading simulation thing is in class where we have to pick 4 canadian companies and 4 american companies to buy. Since i'm pretty new to this what companies should I start off with? If you guys can shoot out some names and trading symbols that will help me out a lot!

but for real, just go on the TSX, NYSE and pick 4 random companies from each index.. you can probably name 8 companies off the top of your head.

Seriously though, try to find companies that will be releasing new technology soon. Anytime something new is released, prices go up. I tried talking my dad into buying Macromedia when I was too young to trade myself, and he laughed at me. Now look where they are. I would have made $20K from that

Maybe just grab some energy companies in Canada, and Wal-Mart and shit like that for the states

IMR on the TSX-V go to yahoo and search IMR.V

it's a canadian mining company, and i own a shit load of their stock.

Pick up a Mutual fund book and just pick four companies from a fund list

Banks are usually ok. BMO has been doing very well lately. You might want to look into that one. BNS is iffy though.
