    Default virus definition subscriptions.

my norton antivirus 2003 subscription is running out in a couple days. i dont want to pay them for another year unless i absolutely have to.

what are my alternatives? could i just uninstall 2003 and install 2004 or 2005? the ghetto "cracks" that u can download dont do a thing either.

    ideas?

2004 is shit. If the 2003 renewal is 20 bucks or less, it's a good deal.

I've been running these guys for several months - 1 year free updates, combined antivirus with a branded zonealarm (optional). It's computer associates - very large company.

try AVG, a very good legally free anit-virus software, just go to www.grisoft.com and look for the free download. It's the only one I use and it has worked well for me.

You go to the U of A, right? A quick search on Google gave me this:
    http://www.ualberta.ca/CNS/VIRUS/fsecure.html

At the U of C, we provide our staff and students with McAfee antivirus for free.

I punted Norton last year, it is a system hog.

    Panda is far superior.

You can continue to update it if you download the definitions manually from the norton site. You only have to pay for the convenience of liveupdate doing it automatically.

If you look around their site they have a link to the latest def file.

Please provide a link to this. I tried doing this and I can download the definition but even then it says I have to renew.

That was the exact link i tried before. I've tried all of them except for the multi-part file. Have you personally tried it with an expired subscription?

Here's the error that I get:
