    Default Question on lug nuts.

I just put my winter tires on, and I noticed that the front lug nuts don't seat all the way down the lugs. They only grab about half the threads on the nut. I assume the lugs are a little short, but they seem to work with my summer rims. Is the distance that the lug nuts go down on the threads safe enough? The nuts are about 1" in length, so they grab about 1/2" inch of the lugs. I'd grab a pic, but with the snow right now, I don't want to wreck my digi cam.

your summers probably have round seats and your winters probably have square seats - you might need a different set of lugs for your winters

Also are you making sure the wheel itself is properly seated on the hub?

Yeah, I double checked to make sure the wheels were properly seated on the hubs, and that the hub rings weren't interfering with that. I'll have to double check the seat on the rims, to see if they are square or round. But is it safe to drive with them now, even if I don't go on Deerfoot, just keep it slow and steady, or should I switch back to the summers for now, until I get new lugs, if needed?

*edit* Okay, I checked and lug seats are round, so the lugs are the correct type. What it looks like is that the hub face( if that's what it's called ) is thicker than on my summer rims. And now that I look at it again, it seems like the lug nuts grab about 2/3 of the lugs. So I think it has a good enough grip, but I need a second opinion. I don't want to endanger my wife and daughter, as well as everyone else on the road.

Okay, here's a pic of the lugs as they appear on the car. I also checked, and I get 6 full rotations of the lug on the nut, before it is tight on the wheel.

Here is a pic of the lug, with the nut off. Is that enough of the lug to grab onto and hold securely, or should I get longer studs?

Any ideas where I could get longer studs? I asked at the dealer, and all I got was a blank stare, and a "Why?"
