I think suspension is one of the differences.
The 2500 has a more heavy duty one... i think it sits a bit higher as a result.

    Bigger engine maybe?

And to add to the above, 1500= 1/2 ton and 2500=3/4 ton.

Another difference is semi-floating axles to full floating axles, 6 bolt to 8 bolt and so on.

What does this all mean to me? I am the one who asked Redline to put the thread up since i was at work.

I just bought a Sierra 2500. My uncle has a 1500. Personally, they feel the same to me. I figured the 2500 would be much different.

You probably won't notice much of a difference between the two of them driving wise. Even looking at them you won't notice much of a difference unless you knew what to look for. Some 3/4's do sit a little higher, and some not depending on the Maker.

Basically the 2500 is more suited for more heavier towing, hauling heavier loads, carrying larger campers etc. It just has beefier diffs, suspension, higher load rated tires, and maybe lower ring and pinion gears.

Here's a little description for the semi vs full floating axles: http://www.cs.odu.edu/~glaves/chris/axle/

Bolt pattern on the wheels will also most likely be 8 bolts as opposed to 6 bolts for example. This is from the diffs.

3/4's tons are more $$ compared to the 1/2 tons, so 1/2 tons are usually more popular because most people don't need a 3/4.

    Hope this helps.

biggest difference between half ton and three quarter ton are the payloads. Towing will be very close to each other, but the 3/4 ton will definately be able to handle more weight in the box. For example a brand new 2500 can carry approx. 3000 lbs, while a half ton carries 1500 lbs.

Thanks for your help guys. Unfortunately for me, the 1500 and 2500 mean no difference to me. I posted recently for a small truck for light duty work, but I was offered this STEAL of a deal so I jumped on it. It's super clean and has less than 120k on it...

I do have one problem with it however. Maybe someone can help me out. The F$&% radio. It's too small to accept a single din or double din player, so what are my alternatives?? I need CD in there.

    Buy the install kit.
It turns the existing radio hole into a pocket.
Then you put the CD in where the vents are in the middle of the dash.
