Dude did you just open a can of worms...lol.
I just did the girlfriends 97 318 4x4 1500. We went 3" pipes and 3" Crappy Tire Cherry Bomb. Yes it's loud but it sounds very controled. We dumped it just after the muffler as well. If you are looking for something to scare the pants off the guy beside you when he wants to race this will do it!!
I recommend K&N filter, TB spacer, at this point as well. We tested before and after on my G-Tech Pro and we gained 27hp with these easy upgrades. I am just waiting on headers now.
And yes the girlfriend wants all this done!! How cool is that!

Well im looking to do this in stages with just the cherry bombs from canadian tire, and my own cutstom intake with k & n filter, what kind of preformance increase will i get? btw my truck is a long box.
