    Default Good Audio Compression formats?

Argh! Sometimes I can't stand mp3 compression. Right now, I'm ripping "Jan Johnston - Flesh" off a cd...but the mp3 compression is really messing up some parts of the song when there are many different notes playing at the same time.

I'm digitally extracting the track and encoding it at 320Kbps VBR, 48 KHz, no filtering, true stereo, no error correction...

Are there any other formats that might sound better than mp3? I'm considering extracting the song to wave and leaving it at that.

i usually cant tell for most songs....

but its the compression that screwing this one song up. theres a part of the song where theres madd bass while the rest of the song goes on like normal. when the madd bass starts, the other parts get weird and scratchy....this is only the mp3. when i listen to it straight from cd it sounds fine.
