    All cams have "degreeing"

Increasing the duration and lift of the valves however may help your situation.

Or are you talking about adding cam gears to advance or retard them?

Heres my deal i have a 88 mr2 with a bad motor so i bought one and was going to beef it up a little. I have allready bought the hks timing gears, trd header, and cold air intake. And i was going to get cams but i am not sure the 500.00 can be spent better elswhere. And if the hks gears would make any difference in hp without the cams.
There is so many different ways to go i have just got myself alittle lost. If it was a chevy i am stylin but i aam new at foriegn mods.
thanks alot for the help T

So you bought cam gears already?

Unfortunately, unless you buy some cams, you are going to realize that the gears were a very expensive ornament in your engine bay. That, and you'll need to dyno to find the most power (after you install the cam gears)

The gears really just change where your power band is, but they dont give you any hp gains. Use them in conjunction with aftermarket cams to adjust your power band to better suit the longer duration of the cams.

sell those gears and talk to richard at www.tedcomponents.com IMHO those gears are a waste of money especialy if you have stock cams. You can get adjustable cam gears for way cheaper. anyways If i were you I would talk to richard he will guide you

plus the only way to make HP on a NA 4age is cams and compression.

muscle car guys(see V8s) have been degreeing in cams for years, even with the timing marks lined up stock, or aftermarket cams can still be a couple degrees out.

I rushed to judgment and bought hks cam gears with the intention of installing larger cams. But with alot of reading i dont think it is worth putting cams ect. 900.00 worth of stuff on it to only gain 20 hp. So i think i will put the cam gears back on ebay not buy the cams and just install the exhaust and intake. This is just a little put around car to get better gas millage. I have a 92 yukon 4x4 with a 475hp sbc and it gets 5mpg and does not need to be my dailey driver. I will prob. throw a little nitrous at the mr2 also So when i blow it up it will giveme an excuse to go by a 93 sc mr2. like i should have in the first place.
    thanks T

    900 bucks to gain 20hp....

you think moding cars is free?

Thats the name of the game unfortunatly.

I'm running an expensive set of cams, and I think they were worth every penny. The change the way the entire car drives. Rivs higher, pulls to redline, whole new experience.

THe mr2 is not meant to be a High HP car, it is meant to handle well.

If i were you i would sell the gears like you said put on an intake and exhaust, and most importantly put some sport springs and shocks in. Your car will handle way better.\

20 hp on a car that come with 90 is pretty good, 900$ on a chev will get u about 100 hp at the most and turn it unreliable
