Not to be a dick but if you are looking for information on a turbo that its like 3000$+ i would think that you would put forth the knowledge you have, so then the more knoledgable members (which I am not) could aid you with your decision and fill in blanks of information.

Scroll down a few postsand there is a post regarding turbo's similar to it, or maybe try PMing some of those members.

Dude you're a retard...And I'm glad I don't shop where you shop because $3000 dollars is almost double what it should cost.

    Anyways...

It would be good to know what application you are using it for and what you expect to get out of it. Without knowing, all I can say is that it's a good turbo, I like it, but it may not be right for you because I don't know what you're going to put it in.

Oh and a GT2871r is the same as a GT28rs (disco potato) except it has a 71mm compressor wheel.

    LOOKOUT!!NOOBIE FIGHT!!
Cheapturbo.com has it for 1099.00 so yeah $3000 would be a little much. What are you using it on (displacement wise), how much boost do you plan on running, and why was it called a DiScO pOtAtO??
To quote some site I found on google:
"This turbo is great for small displacement engines up to 2.2L and has the ultimate spool up time compared to other units. This turbo has a flow capacity of about 400HP. The external packaging of this turbo is identical to that of the GT28RS and can be a nice stealty upgrade to step up to 400HP of flow without much re-arrangement. "

    try that.

As for price, is 1100 canadian? What is the application? Do you need injectors, manifold, yadda yadda. Like the monkey pissing into the wallet, that could easily run into money. 1100 US is a wee bit deceiving.

I was actually going to buy one. My local shop quoted something like $1550 overnite if I remember correctly. I changed my mind though and am switching to a t3 flanged manifold with external wastegate instead.

well this is going on a built b18c1 with a bore of 86mm. I have found out alot about this turbo and it is the one that I will be going with. I should be able to get 450whp out of it, and that is good enough for me. as for as money goes I dont have to worry about that.lol well thanks for the info.

    86MM B18C1 and 450 WHP out of a GT2871, ROFL.

    1) 86MM sleeves are PAPER THIN. They WILL balloon and go out of round with boost eventually, and are not a good choice for a street motor. You will not notice the difference between 83 and 86MM, and 83MM is a much better choice for a street car. If I were getting a motor sleeved I'd just run 81, because you arn't going to notice much of a difference going to 83 or 84 anyways.

    2) 450 WHP out of a GT2871? Pass the pipe dude, because you ain't going near 450 WHP on a 2871. For 450 WHP I would run a T3/60-1 with a .63 A/R exhaust housing and a stage III exhaust wheel, it will spool fairly quick and hit 450 WHP without much fanfare.

A GT28RS outspools the GT2871 and the GT28RS makes more power as well. The GT28RS is running out of steam by about 380 WHP, maybe a little more if you get one of ATP's .82 A/R T3 housings. Not the best choice for 450 WHP.

I agree 100%, I dont think you will even get 375 of the 2871 or the RS for that matter. The compressor is too small, it's designed to be a matched turbine to compressor turbo for fast spool up, ala drifing and such.

To add also both the RS, 2871, would be bad ass for the street, you'll be screching tires all over the place at low rpm's, fast spool and good torque numbers.

lol, if you're on an SC61 right now there is not a chance in hell you're going to downgrade to a 28RS. And if you do, you're going to be like "oh crap, my car feels like shit being down 100 WHP on the top end"

    The GT28rs isn't much of a step above a T25.

If it doesn't flow as much as an FPT28 it's crap, especially for the money.

Just looking at them no, but look at the compressor and turbine maps, you will find that the GT series turbo run about 8-15% higher on the compressor and 20% higher on the turbine (less restriction for same turbo rpm). I have been involved and ran a few of these turbos on GSXR1000's. You can get them out of vancouver for around $1200 canadian. Or you can stick wioth the gt series type but get the non ceramic ball, for half the price.
T series turbos are old WWII technology.. at least the GT's are out of the 90's..
