Angry WTF is with my stupid computer!!

K, I came home from school today.
Turned on my computer to check my mail..all good (even though windows loads up slow as usual, nothing I'm not used too)
Checked my mail, and said whatever I'll just leave the computer on. Went upstairs to get some food, ate then decided I would go do some homework.

Went into my room "hmm, computers off...guess I'll try to turn it back on again"
Pressed the power button, I hear a quick spool up from the fan and then its off again. No power to it.

    wtf is going on?
Could it be the fan? for a while now the fan (Main computer fan, not the one on the heat sink) the fan doesn't turn on. or makes funny noises when its spinning..

    anyone help me out please?

Could very likely be the PSU or maybe the MoBo.
    What are you'r system specs?
    How old is the computer?
What are the specs of you'r psu?

PSU= Power supply unit. I just had the same thing happen to my computer, except I turned it off originaly. Then when I went to restart... nothing. Pretty easy fix though luckily for me!

It really sounds like the PSU went. Psu is the powersupply. What company makes it and how big (watts) is it?
You can find all that info on the lable if you look hard enough.

PSU would be the box that houses the Fan/plug for electricity right?
I knew that would go out sooner or later, I was planning on picking up a new one.

I just opened it up and saw a few 'burnt' spots on the circut board..

You can get a decent 350 for about 80 bucks new at Memxpress or take a risk and get a no-name 400 for 20 at OEM depot.

when I opened up my case and took out the power supply..ALOT of wires came from the power supply box. When I buy a new one will it come with exactly what I have now?
I'm pretty sure the psu, supplies power to the cd drives/harddrives/mother board ya?
well I have 2 cd drives, 2 hard drives and a floppy drive..

Yes - the plugs only fit one way, and any modern PS is for a p4/athlon. There's some extra plugs that are for serial drives, and for both athlon/intel boards but you don't use them all. You can check if there are 4 IDE power plugs (should be), but if you're short, a splitter is like 3 bucks. It's an easy swap, and if you forget a cable nothing bad happens except obviously the device doesn't work.

Do not get a noname. those are the kind that fuk up your computer when they die and if there are burn spots on the circuit board then thats dead too.
Get a good quality enlight 420 watt psu.
    They are extremely inexpensive.
The psu powers pretty much everything.
