I have numerous Rx-7's with engines over 200,000 km's...
Do they pop alot? When you put as much power out of them as alot of people do, things happen, try more than doubling the horsepower on a stock v-8 with stock internals and see how long it holds together, probably it will die of an oil related failure or a broken connecting rod, how many stock internal small blocks are driving around with 400 rwhp, not to many, or not for that long..
Unfortunatly the biggest threat to an rx-7 engine, is :
1) a mechanic that knows nothing about it.
2) an owner that knows nothing about it.
3) the combination of 1 and 2..

I wanted to see what RX-7's late 80's early 90's look like so I went to the autotrader site and they are pretty sharp lookin. But on the first one I clicked on something caught my eye that I think was being discussed here. Rebuilt Engine. Car had 45000kms on a rebuilt engine that was now at 150000kms.... Is that a common thing for you RX-7 owners, having your engine let go at 100k? Or when do the rotary problems that were mentioned above start occuring typically?
You misunderstood me. I didnt mean to refer to you as a punk with a $5 car. Believe me there were guys in high school with nice mustangs who were good guys, for all I know you might have been one of them. Perhaps I shouldnt have genralized so much. However in my high school experience it was the first car of many a dick head who thought he was the shit that's all. The life of a turbo rotary varies, I got 170000kms out of mine, and the cause of it's demise was my own fault. the n/a Rx's have no problem going way past 200000kms if treated right and understood. I will be the first to admit they do require more attention and care than the average piston motor.

Hey fair enough all is good, ok that's more reasonable, i was just like wtf, why would it give out at 100k. What's so different between a rotary and any other engine??

To answer your question, a rotary has little if no moving engine parts at all.

Ya it's kind of hard to explain to people who have never seen one dismantled.
try www.howthingswork.com and search for wankle motor or something like that, they have a pretty good explanation.
