    no.
but since 9/11 they might've changed it.

But all you need is birth cert. driver's license (or any sort of valid picture ID), and if your a minor, parental consent.

Birth Certificate is fine, or citizenship(if you're a fob).

We went to Montana this summer, and there was no hassle.

I went a few months ago, no real hassle. Used my drivers licence to get in. It is a good idea to take one with you, that is what is now recommended by immigration officials with the Fed. Govt.

recommended. But not nessisary. all you really need is you d/l.

My dad went biking in death valley about 2 weeks ago, and all he took was his d/l. thats all he needed.

side note - my dad has been many places, so his passport is pretty full. theses places include india, china, russia, mongolia. To a lesser extend finland, england, mexico, cuba, dominican rep. I say this because when he went to Mexico last feb. this power hungry chick border guard hassled him for like 3 hours because she thought he was a terrorist or something. I tell you, old white guys w/ motorcycles in the back of a pickup beware crossing into idaho. She saw all the stamps and got freaked out, thats why he didnt take his passport a few weeks ago. Actually, it was him and 3 chums 2 weeks ago, but the wierd part is that one of them had a DUI on his record and they didnt even check it, otherwise he would have been sent back.

Highly recommended. It makes life easier particularly if you're coloured or speak with accent.

Those US border officials have unbelievable powers. You'll be wishing you spent the $85 if you get rejected at the border for whatever reason that suits them at the time.

How long does it take to get a new passport (if I lost mine)?

I'm not too worried about going to the states in the next couple weeks, but I might be going overseas in the summer.

The application form says, "Our goal is to have the passport ready in 10 working days."

Edit: When you go overseas, you'll also need your vaccinations. One of the Hep shots takes several weeks where you have to go back a couple of times.

Here's a link to the passport application form that can be printed.
