Where you not a candidate for any of the other procedures? PRK is not fun.

I am a candidate for lasik, but I do contact sports. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
Trust me, I would prefer to just do normal lasik lol

I used to do a lot more contact sports and I did not have any issues with LASIK - hockey, etc. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
My only concern is that I enjoy sparring (muay thai/ boxing) and would like to compete more now that I have free time. And am not sure if I should go the lasik route.
As someone who has had serious eye issues over my life.
I would go with whatever method has lowest chance of complications. Regardless of recovery time / discomfort.

Did PRK with Dr Penno in Bowness. She was very thorough and professional, and I was recovered and back at work in a week. I chose PRK for a number of reasons with one being the contact aspect of my work. I’ve never had dry eye or issues at all, would highly recommend her and that procedure. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote

I ruled out Lasik because I like to dabble in mahjong with the aunties.

Looking to get some input as to what procedure I should consider taking. Just turned 30, had glasses since I was in the teens.
My prescription isn't too bad 1.25 and 1.5 nearsighted. I don't do a lot of contact sports, mainly basketball, v-ball and non-contact football.
I noticed that my prescription has slowly started getting worse since my mid 20's and I think its because I sit in front of a computer 8-10 hours a day.
Can anyone recommend me a place/procedure that is budget friendly? Im all sorts of confused with all the different types out there.
I feel like you should talk to a professional about this… do you see a regular optometrist who can guide you?
I see a few doctors in the Mitchell Eye Center for opthalmic work and surgery. Could try a consult there as they do corrective laser.
My optometrist referred me to Dr Van Westenbrugge when I was looking into corrective laser, she had the most faith in him as he has the mark experience of anyone in the city. Apparently.
I feel like “budget friendly” and eye surger should never be in the same sentence. You only get one chance at sight, if you can’t afford the platinum treatment I would opt out of correction.
Just my $0.02 coming from someone with eye injuries that have left me blind before.

Talk to as many people, get consultations with professionals so you can make a informed decision on FACTS. What you think and what is deemed by a professional are two separate things. You might have bias. You have the Gimbal eye centre here. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
There are side effects. I have some, but they are minor. Given that my eye sight is better than 20/20 and the psychological aspects of it. Its something I am happy with. So make sure you are aware of the process related to your vision and sight. That might be different to someone else.
That would be the starting point. The budget issue I would focus on later.
I had lazik eye surgery in London. I paid a lot more relative to what seemed to be the price. I did not pay over the odds, but I did not get the cheapest. I don't really care as I was more concered with the process and the problem it solved. Approach it like that and you will get better analysis on how to solve this issue.
My daughter just had her eyes lasered, lasik to be exact.
She was almost legally blind -6.75 prescription.
Now she has 20/20 vision. Cost was $4300
I got laser eye surgery, worked great.
Yea I agree with this. I had -9.75 in one eye and -9.5 in the other with 2.25 and 2.0 astigmatism, whatever units those are. I got LASIK 10 years ago with Demong because he specialised in high correction. My eyes are still 20/20 with zero side effects and I've been hit in the eye by a whole bunch of things. I still do a lot of action sports. This quote is hidden because you are ignoring this member. Show Quote
It was $6900 10 years ago though.

I probably contributed to this thread at some point, but cannot recall so I'll say it again.
I had my Lasik about 10 years ago, and now my eyes have clearly (no pun intended) degraded since. I now cannot see small print close up (which they warned me about and I'm getting on on years so no surprise) but my distance vision is at a point now that I'd probably need glasses if I expect to pass a driving eye test. For this reason, I would recommend anybody wanting to get this done look for an option/plan which provides a lifetime guarantee. You'll have to get yearly checkups, but it's worth it. For me, I'm just going to go the glasses route again for those times I need perfect clarity, like driving.
I need to look into this again. Even if I still needed glasses, having a milder prescription would be amazing. Right now without my glasses I can barely function. My one eye has very bad keratconus and I'm damned near blind on that side.

Fukin-A, this! Do NOT skimp on eye health.
bump with my upcoming surgery for my eyes and thought i'd use this thread as it ties a bit into laser surgery.
Looking back at this thread I was going to do PRK but glad I didn't because it would limit the ability for further correction as I now need to replace my natural lense with an IOL.
Currently early 40s and dealing with cataracts in both eyes. Right eye is a central cataract resulting in 9+ overlapping and slightly offset views. When I look at a light, i see 9+ lights that are offset left/right/up/down. Rapidly progressing too. Left eye is edge cataract, so it's less obtrusive. The peripheral vision is distorted, however I wear glasses and my prescription in that eye is -7.25 so its already distorted. Driving at night is now increasingly uncomfortable and I get headaches just reading a screen because of the refraction in my right eye.
So after visiting multiple surgeons and different opinions/views on the type of lens to implant, risks with retinal detachment, I'm flying back to Calgary soon to see Dr. Van Westenbrugge @ Gimbel for IOL surgery with the Alcon Panoptix lenses and they are aiming for 20/20 vision for near/medium/far but potential for 20/25 at worst.
So where this ties into Lasik/PRK is that post surgery, if they are unable to fully correct my vision and i'm left with some nearsightedness, I could do laser surgery or wear glasses to correct my vision. However had I had PRK all those years ago, with my thin corneas and zero ability for further corrections, I would've been hooped and back to wearing glasses.
Also, if you're squeamish, don't watch videos on how they implant IOLs. I regret watching them.
