How much does brand name matter when buying electronics?

When it comes to electronics, we usually only buy brand names we've had good experiences with before. But it's getting hard to justify the extra 10% in price for a TV that says Sony instead of JVC.

How much does brand name really matter with electronics?

With me, not at all. I'm a pretty firm believer that most of the big Japanese electronics makers are very, very competitive. You can buy an RCA, JVC, or other cheaper brand that has most of the same features and lasts as long, or even longer than the Sony brand. Sure, Sony is a pioneer, but that really doesn't matter to me.
