Maybe check out a dirt bike, thats how i got my start.
Thing is I want something I can ride mostly on paved roads.
Legally? Then at 14 your stuck at a scooter or moped unless the laws have changed.
Well there are 49cc engine mini choppers. Obviously thats too small but if they have them that small then maybe there are ones that are a bit bigger but still legal for me to ride.
EDIT: For example could I ride something like one of these in the street?

Basically. What I want is something I can use to get from point A to point B within a 2 mile radius or so w/o walking or bicycleing (sp?).. Even if its not street legal would I be allowed to ride it on a wide sidewalks or the shoulder of a 2 lane highway, or in the streets in suburban side streets? I want something I can ride at 5mph up to at least 40 mph.
What about pocket bikes? Or Motor Scooters? Are they good? What If I get one of them and then put a 90cc dirtbike engine on it instead? Is that possible? street legal? Any help would be appreciated. Also, what websites and forums are related to my questions?

If you get one, get a mini chopper. The most absolutely pimpin thing to be ridin through your neighborhood on except a motorcycle itself. Or a Sledgehammer.
Mini choppers are kick, I wanna build one. Can't wait for the new garage to be built, then I actually can...

Will a mini chopper fit all the criteria i posted in my previous post? It sounds good though.

Is this considered a full motorcycle that you have to be an adult to ride, or can I ride this in the street?
Is the first one ok if Im not riding it off road? Is the second?
Those are dirtbikes, unless you put signal lights and front/rear lights on them, they are illegal on the streets.
Go SCOOTER it up man! nothing over 50cc though, otherwise its not legal! Go get a vespa or something queer like that!

Can I ride it in the streets as is? Though I might modd it a bit but It would still be the same kind of bike.
you have to have a M licences to ride a bike over 50cc and the bike you want is more then 50cc
I agree with Fosgate R put some excitement between your legs ride a scooter
M licence?
yeha, you can ride a scooter under 50cc with your learners... legally, but it needs to be registered and insured.
Thats only fun to ride on if you take it off some sweet jumps...Originally posted by iceburns288
Or a Sledgehammer.
At 14, the only license you qualify for is class 7 (learners). You need this if you don't already have it. This entitiles you to the normal car 'learner' privileges as well as the ability to ride a scooter or moped. These have to be 49cc or under, and have to be street legal (i.e. mirrors, lights, speedo.. the usual). Also, to ride these on public roads, you need to be insured and the scooter has to be registered. This means mini-bikes etc. are out because they don't meet motorvehicle safety standards and usually don't have VIN numbers, and therefore are unregistrable.
As for riding a mini-bike on sidewalks etc, this is absolutely 100% illegal. No powered vehicles allowed on sidewalks, paths etc. I think in some places bicycles are even technically illegal on sidewalks, but I'm not 100% sure on this.
A scooter isn't that bad of a way to get around when you're 14. I wish I'd have had one back in the day. A buddy of mine (over 30 lol) wanted a scooter, so we found one in the garbage finder for around $300. It's in pretty decent shape, and isn't all that bad to ride.
Scooters are so boring.
And a 49cc engine is out, I would want at least 125cc.
Whats wrong with a regular motorcycle but with a smallish (as in 100-300cc) engine?
What don't you understand about "not" being able to register and insure any type of powered machine over 50cc. Thats the law, thats it.Originally posted by Carfanman

It would be nice to have more power, you'll have to wait till your 16 just like everyone else.
