engine upgrade. what kind of engine to use?

ok i have a old sunbird that i drive now and then. it,s an 88 sunbird and its old and rusted and not cool looking at all. the engine have 291 xxx km on it and it just went. this car is soon to be my little brothers car and he wants it to be a sleeper.

does anyone know a good engine that is a strait conversion for this car. somthing that has power. something that will beat most average cars off the line and maybe even turbo'd but not a huge deal. im not really sure if there is a good engine for it but i was just cerious because i have to put a new one in anyway but i was jsut wondering if there is an upgraded engine that would work in this car. the car has a 2.2L in it right now and i could throuth a 3.1 or the 2.2 turbo in it.

is there a 3.1L turbo engine for this car or would any other engine from another car fit into it without haveing to swap or convert anything.

any usefull web sights i could go to for help. i live in calgary and i dont really want to have to ship it over sea's or anything.

If you ask me, find another stock engine and build up the internals with him and teach him some stuff, I don't know what you know or what he knows but you could probably build a quick little engine yourself and then if he decided to turbo it later he would already have strong internals.

theres a sunbird outside the 64th ave ct, 3.1turbo in it (long story short, somebody fucked up and ct had to buy the car off the customer), go ask the service manager if he wants to sell it

3.1 Turbo?? Either he built that himself or found a very rare GP engine.


As for your question: Try to find a 2.0T at the wreckers or online. IT would bolt up the easiest and would have the most potential. If that doesnt't work than use a 3.1. Alot of custom work involved though.

If time isn't an issue than maybe you could learn something by building it up.

Find a tired 3.1 for a hundred bucks and rebuild it, you could find a way to put it in the sunbird and you would have a unique car. If it doesn't pan out than just sell it to the wreckers and you wonldn't lose much cash.
