Default need advice on car purchase

looking at an 85 MR2 just to get me around for now

at the moment the e-brake cable is out of the car, previous owner says it seized or locked up??? should i be worried about anything other than just replacing the cable if something like that happened? also how easy is it to put in the cable myself? i have usually worked on old bmw's and have no idea what to expect when i get under this car.
also the car is running on synthetic oil... would i be correct to take this as a good sign that the old engine can run it without causing problems or leaking oil more heavily?

im assuming this forum would be a great place to be looking for used parts and info

any other links you guys can give me for parts or do it yourself instructions? is there a certain repair manual i should grab over another?
    edit: nm found the sticky

    thanks in advance

    Hey Soren,
The ebrake cable is pretty easy to replace however make sure none of the calipers are seized. That tends to happen on the older mr2s. Its a good sign the engine is on synthetic, that means someone actually cares for the engine. Make sure the oil pressure is at normal levels while the car is running. Other than that there arent many things to worry about other than rust. Good luck

did a bunch of research on mr2oc forums... found some great stuff there so im not to worried about that anymore

ya this engine seems like it was taken care of quite well, a few receipts with the car showing some internal work and cleaning along with all the basics to keep her running

now that i have the car im noticing how bad the exterior is heh... but as long as the car keeps running i dont really care that much

    u guys auto-x much?

I do. A properly setup MKI with a good driver can be a formadable solo car. As can all the MR2s.

If any one is interetsted in autox (solo2) you can get more info at the Calgary Sports Car Club site and the Calgary Sports Car Club Forum. . You need to login before you will see the solo 2 forum.

The CSCC has added an SM2 class this year to accomidate cars that would have otherwise been forced into the mod class. This means that all the rice rockets that had no good class to run in before now do have some where to run.

I love the mk1 for autox its a far better car than the overhyped ae86.
