At 8x I burn a DVD in around 8 minutes. On 16x i assume it would be around 5 min or less. Also, it does burn CDs and CD-RW. It also does Dual Layer discs when they come out.

dual layer means that there are 2 layers to a disk aka...double the capacity..so your 4.7 gig dvd becomes 9.5 gig dvd

any dvd burner will make a copy of a movie, as long as u got the right software. Many movies now days that u rent and buy are on dual layer disks, so in order for them to fit onto a normal single layer u need to use a program called dvd shrink or equivalent, which will recompress the file system to fit onto a single layer dvd.
