Default Calgary's Official 5th Gen Lude Thread

    INDEX:
    -Engine Codes: Page 1
-Wheel and Tire Size Info: Page 11

I'm feeling left out since everyone has one of these...

Anyway, let's start with the CEL codes (borrowed from TPC):

    To find the CEL Code:
In order to get the code you'll need to find the service connector. On the 5th Gens it's on the right hand side of the centre console underneath a carpeted panel that just pops right out. The connector looks like a telephone connector and is plugged into a blue plastic piece that just serves as a holder. Unplug it and you'll see that it has two sockets in it that lead to two wires.

You'll need a small piece of wire for this. Make sure the car is off. Just connect the two ports in the service connector together with the wire. After you've shorted the service connector, turn the key in the ignition to the on position (you don't actually need to start the car) and the yellow engine light will flash at you. There will be a series of long flashes, short flashes, and then it will repeat itself. Count the number of long flashes and short flashes and this will give you the MIL code. 2 long flashes and 3 short flashes is code 23. Once you've found the code, turn the key back to off and remove the wire from the service connector. You can look up the code in the following list.

    3 Manifold Absolute Pressure Signal

    10 Intake Air Temperature Cicuit

My girlfriend bought one of these ('97) with a tiptronic......and the tranny is fucked. Won't even go in reverse or anything. Apparently it's a major problem with the honda tiptronics or something. Do any of you guys know the best way to fix the problem, or the best route to take? Replace tiptronic, 5spd swap, etc. Maybe someone else on this board has had the same problem.

    Thanks

I heard that at one point Honda recalled almost all of the tiptronic ludes for new transmissions... maybe her car was affected but never made it to the dealership?

Worth a try, check it out.

I think that was only for the 2000-01's....all previous model year owners were SOL. I'd like to swap a 5spd in there to avoid having to deal with this again, but the chance of finding a 5spd donor car is pretty slim.

You are correct, you are SOL if you have a 97-99 SS Lude. You can also try and find a 4th Gen wrecked prelude SRV for the donator of parts (ie. tranny) or anyother 4th Gen for pedals...etc for a 5 speed swap.

But if your in need of a tiptronic tranny, I will have one soon (since I'm doing the 5 speed swap)

Yeah I think that would be easiest, straight swap. If your tranny has no problems whatsoever I'll definitely be interested. Thanks for the help

for NA - fidenza/clutchmasters or Jun flywheel
    for turbo - oem flywheel

for a clutch, Exedy organic is a good oem replacement. If your looking for something that'll hold a little better than a stock clutch, I'd go with the ACT HDSS for pretty much any app.

I'm using the ACT 6 puck. You can try it out once winter's over Richard.
I've heard good and bad things about Spec, nothing about them on Hondas though.
If money is no object, I'd go with the ACT XTSS for drivability and its ability to hold power.

ACT 6 puck. I think its the HDR6. That's what I'm using, and its the cheapest clutch ACT makes for our car haha.
