    Default Rb20det

How reliable is the RB20DET? How much would it cost me to get a good rebuild done here in Calgary?

    Thanks in advance guys

I meant, if the car I bought already has one in it... is a rebuild going to cost the same as a new engine, or is it going tobe decent?

ya the rd20det in the 300zx is sadly slow. was a waste of time and effort. I know this because i have seen it run, on the track and off.

so he can tell the world for some obscene reason he put a 225 hp single turbo motor into a car that had stock 300 hp, the amount of fab time ud need to fit an I6 into a Z32 engine bay and costs, may as well follow stillens mod path and get to the 550 type turbo/injector level, hav a decent 450 rwhp car...

but yea, autodream = local experts for RB motors, the owners had an RB20, 25, and currently just got a 26 into his car so he knows them very well...strongly recommended

Have either of you personally had work done at Autodream? I have, and I have a very, very different opinion of their work.

If you need info about RB's come talk to me. I have a full set of service manuals, a great compilation of part numbers and a ton of hands-on experience working on RB's.

As for the RB rebuild question, for the money you'd spend on a rebuild of the motor you can buy 2 used ones, so don't worry about blowing them up!! I'm gotta boost the crap out of mine and see what it can take

Usually 2-3 weeks if I have to order from Japan, there are places around the net that would be faster but I usually pay less if I wait.

There are a lot of parts that cross over to other cars as well, for example the o2 sensor is the exact same part as an old 200sx turbo CA18Et's one, so parts like that can be readily available.

You really don't have to change anything to get the RB20 into the S13, you really only need the engine, wiring harness and the R32 Crossmembers. You gotta run a pusher fan because the stock fan won't fit any more, but it's a really straight forward swap.

www.nissaninfiniticlub.com has a great write-up on their 240sx section for the RB swaps, here's a link:

2.5's a little more involved, you need to modify the tranny mount (turn it around and use spacers/adaptors) and you need a custom driveshaft. otherwise it's pretty much the same!

So, to sum everything up: it's a good engine, and I probably won't have to worry about it dinking me around?

Since the vehicle I'm considering will already have one in it, I just want to be sure.

No, they make a great daily driver. Mine starts all the time in -30 weather and warms up nice. It puts out great heat too.

if you were to do it again, would you go 2.0 or 2.5?

btw, what is the going rate of a 2.0/2.5?
