Importing Vehicle From The States?

I would like to purchase a car from a friend in the states. The car meets the requirements for importation into Canada without any need for modifications.

My question is how do I go about shipping the car from the states to Edmonton? Do the shipping companies take care of things such as a vehicle's title/compliance labels/fees when the car arrives at the border? How do I get a a recall clearance letter,can this be done in Canada? Do shipping companies provide insurance,if not where can I get insurance?

Yes there are some companies that will bring the car basically to your door, well local customs office anyways, and you do the paper work there. The recall letter is simple just go to the dealership with the VIN after you have the car and get a letter and/or the recalls done.

Remember there is fees <gst, duty, A/C excise tax etc>, and don't try to rip customs off they can AND will access your bank/financial statements if they think you are lying. So don't get your buddy to make a bill of sale for $5 dollars for a 1997 Eclipse but pay him 12k under the table.
