UofA Campus Security Ticket?!?

I went through a yellow light yesterday and U of A Campus Security Services pulled me over and issued me a City of Edmonton Ticket. I didn't think they could do that - it definitely wasn't a police cruiser. To my knowledge the Calgary Campus Cowboys can't do that...

Anyway, I want to contest the ticket. Do I HAVE to appear at the Justice of Peace Counter all the way back up in Edmonton? Or can I do it from Calgary somehow?

If they have special constable status they can issue tickets. Much like the C-train constables here in Calgary and Edmonton.

As for the ticket, it was issued in Edmonton, so that's the jurisdiction you have to fight it in.

I was afraid of that... Looks like I'm going back up to Edmonton to contest this then.

The U of A campus 5-0 issued you a provincial traffic ticket. You'll now have to fight this like any other traffic ticket.

If you want to save the time/money of making another trip up here, you can call Pointts to deal with it, as they have an office up here.

I personally don't think it'd be too hard to fight though. Campus security are just a bunch of powertripping fools that the rest of the law enforcement community looks down upon.

Yeah the guy was totally on a power trip. He made me wait half an hour before he gave my license and registration back! I'm definitely going to fight this.

Nope you can get a yellow light ticket. Red light tickets are for when you enter the intersection on a red. If you go 5 feet into the intersection while it's yellow, then turns red I'll give you a yellow light ticket. All depends on the road, speed, traffic, etc. But there is a 3 second gap between a yellow and a red and if I feel you could stop safely in that time, but instead give it gas to run the yellow, I'll give you a yellow light ticket. I believe it's a $172 fine vs $289 for the red.
