I have the old BBC series on DVD. Looks like they've taken a few liberties with it but looks like it will probably be pretty faithful for most stuff. Thanks for the link.

I read 1/2 the book on a drinking binge weekend houseboating.

I read the whole series a couple years back, it's still one of my favorites. The movie looks great, I can't wait... as long as they don't screw it up. Which is entirely possible.
At least they didn't leave out the tragically doomed sperm whale.
