    Default Broken Cell Phone, fixable?

Well the top part of my flip phone came apart form the bottom. No damage to the actual phone but the yellow/goldish wire strip (I don't know what the actuall name for them is) that gives power to the screen/top part of the phone ripped off. So I took it to the rogers store and he said it would cost around $150-$180 to fix and only take 5-10 mins. So I don't know what cost so much but I try'ed phoning my phone and you can answer and talk so that all works. I just need to reatach the yellow wire part. It might be hard to explain without pics, but I will have pics tomorow. But I was just wondering if anyone knows if I could fix it myself? I don't think sodering would work, but is their any other way to fix it beside coughing up the $$$? Thx in advance.

anything more then a handfull is a waste.

quit rogers, go to telus, get a phone that works and a network that gets you coverage!

    What phone is it?

I think its a motorola, and soldering will not work. You will have to replace the flex cable.

I might have the parts available, depending on what you have.

    what phone is it?
and i think ur talking about the flex cable, but how are u able to answer and talk if u said that cable ripped off? wouldnt u have no speaker to hear from theN? ur best bet would be to just buy a broken phone like urs and remove the cable and attach it to urs, which is very simple to do...and if the cable didnt actually break but just seperated from the phone that is easy to attach back

K well her is a pic of it....

You can kinda see the yellow strip still attached to the bottom part of the phone. I can still use the phone, but like I don't know when it rings, and I can't hear but I can talk, answer, and press bottons on it. The phone is a Motorola T720. Were could I find a old/broken phone like this for cheap? Or even a new flex cable?

oh ya that phone is relatively simple to fix, look for a busted phone on bargain finder or even beyond (you should be able to find one for around $25) and just remove the flex cable from that phone and attach it to this one then throw the busted phone away or sell it as a parts phone...if u have trouble figuring out how to take it appart then look at how to change teh housing on the T720 and u should find some good picture tutorials which will explain how to get there

EDIT: Just checked and u can get a new t720 flex cable from Ebay for about $15 so that would probably be ur best bet

Is it that easy to take apart a phone and replace a part as important as a flex cable?

That's nuts that the phone still works.

actually now that the top and bottom part are seperated, its just unscrewing a couple of screws and the flex cable just pops off so just about anyone with half a brain should be able to do it

Just make sure you take the necessary ESD precautions, before you start this repair. It would be a shame to go through all the trouble, only to fry an IC while you're in there.

Just google "ESD precautions" and it'll be clear.

OK so I finnaly got the flex cable. Took the phone apart, pretty easy. But when I get to the screen it looks like it is spot-soderd(sp?) together. How can I take that apart?
