Default Cooling fan not shutting off

    1990 Honda Accord EX
    Just purchased.

When I shut off the vehicle the cooling fan turns on and then will not shut off until the battery is dead. If I put the key back in and turn it one click up to where the running lights come on it will shut the fan off. If I remove one of the battery connectors and then put it back on right after the fan shuts off and then stays off. Is this an ignition problem? an overall electrical problem? a fan specific electrical probelm? or simply a fan problem?

Other information, may be usefull to the problem:
    - weak battery
    - tape/am/fm player that came with it does not have power
    - all other electrical components appear to work, all lights work, all power windows work etc.

I am taking it back to the dealership tomorrow but I figured I would ask around and try and figure it out so I have some information for tomorrow.

Any help would be great, thank you.

Yeah well I wonder how they get the soft flowing caramel inside the Caramilk bar but you don't see me making a god damn thread about it. Slap your wife Baygirl, straighten him out.

I have a 90 Accord as well, and have the same problem, except the fan won't continue until the battery is dead. But it will occasionally stay on once the car has been turned off. It's rarely on for more than 30 seconds though.

Yeah that's what I told him but when he brought it the the dealership to get raped....they told him they couldn't find anything wrong. Should I just get to buy the parts and change it out anyways? I guess that would be the easiet way. Thanks Jeff.

Cooling fan relay contacts are fused closed. The reason the dealership couldn't find anything wrong is because they probably only check the relay coil for resistance. Pull the fan relay out. There should be 4 pins. 2 are for the coil and the other two are the contacts that the 12volts to the fan runs through. With the relay de-energized (no power to the coil) the contacts should be open (infinited resistance). If they are closed you need a new relay.
