Default Refusing to show a Will

My in-laws are nuts. A grand-father died last year, and the wife (second marriage) refuses to show the will to anyone. I would go ask to see it from the lawyer, but she won't say who it is.

Now, you know and I know you can't do that, but how do you actually force disclosure?

I've heard of getting Police to come get a will, but I'm assuming you can't just call them up and ask them to go get it.

I don't really want to get a lawyer involved because I'm pretty sure there's no monetary gain for me (I'm mostly interested because of his daughter getting screwed by the step-mom). Plus all the drama has made me intensely curious. She never went through probate or anything, and I'm not even sure what she's doing with the taxes.

Do you know who the executor of the will is? Sometimes it is a family member, sometimes it is not. You have a legal right to see it.

Most Wills need to be notarized. Do you know who your Grandfather's lawyer was?

i'd get a lawyer involved. she might be hiding something you guys don't know about. plus, wouldn't it be sweet and let her know that what shes doing isn't right?? talk to other family members and see if you can get things going.

Sorry I was vague on the tree - it's my wife's grandfather (and so the sister is her aunt). Not my daughter, or anyone directly related to me.

Now here's the rub - most wills leave most to the spouse, so chances are she got most everything. If we piss her off, she might just take off to the States with her previous marriage familly. She's not a bad lady but gets offended pretty easy.

One of the executors was my sister in-law but SHE hasn't even seen the will. It's been a year, and I think something is fishy. But I don't even know if I can just call up her lawyer and demand to see it (how do I know he didn't leave everything to me? He didn't but I'm just saying...)

If I was sure there was $$ involved for me, I'd have a lawyer in a heartbeat. But I don't think there is. But there might be for my mother in-law, etc.

Get a lawyer - regardless if their is benefit to you or not, because you'll never really know.

It sounds a bit fishy, hiding the will..perhaps not everything was left to her?

Heres my general rule of thumb - the more money invovled, the more selfish and greddy people start to act, and the more conniving people become.

    Money makes people craaazy!

This same thing happened to my fiances great uncle when he passed away, each person was left $10,000 for anyone over 25 and everyone under 25 got $5,000.The executor of the will refused to show anybody the will so my fiance's aunt or someone called a lawyer and took the executor to court where he then had to send copies of it too everyone who was written in the will, children included.

why doesn't your gf just get it over with and call a lawyer?, by now that bitch could have spent or sold whatever and could put assets in a offshore account.

I would guess that the executor ( with the help of a lawyer) has the right to demand to see the will, and failure to do so might nullify the will( in whole or in part) until it is presented.

Just my guess, hope it helps
