which lidar are rcmp using?

got nailed doing 139 on the transcanada about 25 mins west of town by a cop using laser. he showed me the unit, it had marksman in the name. it was a fairly small handheld unit, not mounted or anything. does anyone know what make/model this might have been?

radar detector didnt even go off while he hit me might have to shell out for a laser jammer!

radar detectors don't detect laser.

I was thinking about a laser jammer from Mobile. Anyone have had any experiences with the units and/or companies?

if its not pointed at you, it wont set off the radar detector.

some rc's keep em in there lap till they spot a big speeder

im aware of how well detectors pick up laser, not the point of this thread

my detector detects laser just fine, however even the best laser detection is useless because you have to be hit with the small beam straight on, his beam cutoff was obviously lower than the top of my windshield where my detector was sitting.

trying to detect it isnt worth it, jamming is your only hope. but, im just wondering if anyone has any knowledge on the make and model he is using for court purposes, and in case i do get a jammer i want to be sure that one is jammable

I guess i've been living in the past for too long. Has this been a new technology in regards to integrated radar/laser detector?

Laser just turns on so fast that even if you detect it, you're just affirming that you'll be seeing red/blue lights very soon.

Speed Traps - almost always laser
Patrol Cars - CPS use Ka radar, but a lot of cars dont have it. theyll try and clock you.
Photo Radar Vans - very low power Ka band angled in the direction of travel. it only needs enough juice to read a few feet in front of it. you wont detect it until its too late because of this. you can detect it if youre travelling the opposite way, but if thats the case you dont care about it.
RCMP - K band radar while moving, easy to detect well in advance if its always on. a few units have laser, which can only be used stationary.
Helicopter - they dont do this anymore, but this was done by clocking, determining the speed based on how long it takes you to travel between 2 points

If you want to find out what the make of the Laser was, request disclosure for your ticket in writing through the appropriate crown prosecutor's office. The notes will likely make some reference to the model.

COuld've been Ka band with a POP blast; detector not specified for POP modes will not pick it up at all.

and have you read that POP radar is very innacurate, and the RCMP is too cheap to upgrade to such unit

No point in having a feature, you cant even use.

These "your speed" trailers? they set up in school zones and what not, do they do anything besides show you your speed? I don't think they radar you, or take any pics or anything, I've not seen any flash...

i wondered that at first, but it wasnt POP. POP is a mode on BEE model radars made by MPH, which he didnt have. also he circled "laser" right on the ticket.

they do radar you which is how they get your speed, but ive never seen any that do anything as far as giving you a ticket. just about everyone will slow down when there is a big sign outside saying that they are speeding, so they work pretty well.

also its not currently legal to have photo radar outside of city limits (but this might change soon) so you dont have to worry about them snapping pics.

This is mostly but not entirely true. While photo radar is not used on provincial jurisdiction highways, individual municipalities and more importantly, municipal districts can use photo radar on highways for which they are responsible.

The County Mounties of MD Rocky View, for example, use photo radar, and not just in the towns and hamlets within the MD.

In grade 11..theyre was a newsletter that went out stating they would stop using photoradar, especially the ones they have in the boxes on the sides of the hwy. I drive in the rockyview municipality everyday, and i havnt seen photo radar since grade 11. This was about 4 years ago BTW.

Hey just remembered this thread, sorry yes, I know they "radar" you to show your speed, what I meant was they don't take a picture of you (from what I've seen)... I also took a run at one one night, being curious of them.. It went up to 60 then flashed a few times and sat there.. Not sure why, but I didn't see any flashes either..
