Question Best initial modification for increasing Hp, 2.5RS

Hey, I'm new to the forums, but I got a 2001 Subaru Impreza 2.5rs, been looking at various exaust systems, intakes, and turbos. I want to know the best initial way to increase the performace of my car, any suggestions? I have a small budget can't afford to put much more then 1000$ into it.
    Thanks.

To be honest the bolt ons won't net you a lot of HP gains, but it will make the car sound meaner. Intake, exhuast is good, but I think your money is better spent on suspension IMO

You'll have more fun with it

Save up your cash and start with a stage 1 turbo, then you can slowly continue to upgrade when you get more money.

Wont cost more than 1G if you know how to do it right, and don't need a name on every single little pipe you use

Cams alone will cost him a lot for decent ones. I haven't seen a cheap CAI or exhuast either. I assume he can't put in cams on his own so there is more labor.

Whats the point of getting a crush bent exhaust?

Everything you do will bring you closer to transmission failure. The more you mod, the more money you should put away for replacing it.

    Something to keep in mind.

2.5RS is that turbo? (forgive me, I know nothing of Subies)

If it is turbo Id go with a chip.

I would say save up your money on this one, the so called "basic" mods of intake, cam, exhaust won't really produce a noticable change and will cost quite a bit. Especially the cams on this car. I'm assuming that doing the cams on a boxer 4 would be a little tougher(pain in the ass) than your average car, not only that there's 4 of them... So save up some more money for boost, and as benyl said the tranny lol

Sorry not familiar with his motor, so wasn't sure wut kind of cam set up he needed (I was going with personal experience, $150 for a good cam, plus installation myself)
Personally I think the best idea is just for a drop in K&N for intake.

And for exhaust I would just go with a muffler, not a cat back, not a fart can, buy the piping and get it mandrel bent (again I am sort of cheating having a friend of a friend who can do that for me)

A suspension is the best $1000 you can spend!

    Congrats on the new ride.
Most air intakes and exhausts won't give you much more power, unless you want to pay for the really good stuff from companies like COBB, etc.
Either suspension or a good set of tires would be my first choice. I got tires btw.

did you not read the consensus that suspension is the best route and I/H/E will not be really worth it?

Do tell where this mandrel bender is... I didn't think there was one in western canada?

I don't know what the point of this post is. He didn't read any of the responses.
