I would never buy a radar detector...just another thing that will make fun of me when I get pulled over. Not that I should, but if I did.

Just makes a lot of loud noises letting you know you just got a ticket...

or just beeps all the time for little or no reason.

I have a cobra radar, not trying to sound cool or anything, but i speed all the time and haven't been picked up yet. Mine has K KA and X bands. One tip though, don't leave out in cold weather, it ruins them, i learned that the hard way.

I have a cheap one...it's saved my ass a few times. When I hear it beep, even if it's a false beep I do a speed check just to make sure I'm under the limit.

I would suggest that if you like to speed, then get a radar/laser detector. They work. I have a BEL 855STi. Saved me dozens of times. Any higher end detector is good - Escort 8500, V1, BEL 980+......with laser, Ka, K, X band detection. And most are undetectable if you got to BC.....

X band is rarely used any more except they use it on Highway 2.

K band is used on photo radar, and both K and Ka are used from patrol cars.....

The lower end ones suck - cobra, uniden....way too many false alarms...

Get a detector. BUT, you can't rely on it, be smart...

I don't know for sure if they work. I bought one before a long road trip, forgot it & left it at home... and got a speeding ticket.

Would I have avoided the ticket if i had my detector? Probably!!! Why? Because the Super Trooper was waitign at the bottom of a hill. When me & like 20 other cars crested the hill, my detector would have gone off & I would have braked to slow down. Mr. Super Trooper would have looked up to visually pick out the speeder... and not have seen me ----> speeding amongst the other speeders. I'll never know

One thing I know for sure... expect to pay over US$250 for a good one (there are like three that the mags say are the best - Bel, Valentine, and a Passport). I got the top of the line BEL

Photo radar works by taking your speed after you've passed the camera. If you have a decent detector, you will get a reflected signal and know it is around. They use K band. But also be smart about it - sometimes if there is nothing for reflections, you will be caught.

There are a few automotive shops that sell that plate - JBs, Matrix, AutoToyz....

Thats why I hate Edmonton photo radar, they use K band, which is the most annoying cuz so many other things set off K band! haha at least the cops in Calgary use Ka

So as far as your radar/laser detector tellin you, you have just recieved a ticket with laser radar, you may still have the option to bust a quick right or left hand turn in front of the cop. For the most part laser guns are set up on tripods. Who is gonna chase you down when they can just pull the next guy over?
