To me it looked like Silva wasn't trying or something. Most of the punches thrown by Sonnen, including the ones standing up, got through without Silva attempting to block them.
But what a fight, I liked the outcome.

Id agree with that. Silva wasnt really even trying to block most of them. Sonnen landed some serious strikes on the ground and pound but it almost looked as if silva wasnt even feeling them. You could tell Silva was getting pissed about being on the ground towards the end though.Originally posted by Critical

Yeah its a stacked card, can't wait for that one or WEC 51!!
UFC released the main card for UFC 121 as well and its a super card as well.
Cain vs Brock (heavyweight title)
Kampmann vs Shields
Sanchez vs Thiago
Hammill vs Ortiz
Gonzaga vs Schaub
I guess after 2 free cards (UFC 119 and 120) they are going to make this one worth buying.

Yeah lifting weights is boring and more for "show muscle"... Creative training is way better for speed and flexibility.. etc ..
Look at a monkey for example, they are small, flexible and strong as fuck. They do nothing more then use their own weight day to day, but its the way they use it that make them freakishly strong, jumping, swinging, pulling, hanging.. etc
No real big surprises last night.
Props to edgar though for his performance...
james toney didnt get one punch in??!!?! not a single punch!
i'm glad I skipped this one
that's what happens when a grappler is scared (and rightfully so) to stand up with a guy who'll remove his head if he lands one.Originally posted by dirtsniffer

That's also what will happen every time Toney gets into the octagon- there's no way Diana White will put him in with someone who would stand up with him (after all, that would show that Toney was right when he creams somebody, right?)
Toney landed at least one punch from the bottom....Randy's not a grappler, he's a wrestler. He was very smart to shoot a low single, as it is very unlikely he would eat a strike on the way in....what did you expect, him to try and stand with Toney?
I'm glad they saved Joe Lauzon's fight for the end....man what a buzzsaw!
Too bad I didn't bet on Edgar, I would have been a happier man when I woke up this morning

Anyone watch Shark Fights?
Pretty comical production value, but I'd watch Frye and Bas commentate on a gardening competition, so at least it had that going for it.
The judging was fucking terrible though. One of the judges had Jardine winning 2 rounds to 1, which is fucking ludicrous. One of the judges had Daley winning round 2? What the fuck was that guy watching?
Something did occur to me during the Daley/Masvidal fight though:
With all the complaining some fighters (mostly Japanese and sub-B level) are doing about the American, wrestling-heavy style of MMA, why no complaints about winning by only controlling the middle of the ring and pace on the feet?
To be clear, I have no problem with Daley winning round 1, but that's because I have no problem with a wrestler winning a round by controlling his opponent on the ground.
Daley didn't land shit, and didn't do anything other than miss in impressive fashion. He won the round by controlling the position (the ring) and keeping Masvidal from being able to do anything, exactly the same as how Koscheck won rounds against Daley by controlling the position and keeping him from being able to do anything. And how Fitch beats everyone (not named Georges) by controlling them and shutting them down.
The only difference I see is that the ineffective (from a damage perspective) striker isn't at risk of having a trigger happy judge bow to the spectator's jeers and make them restart on the ground, which is a very real danger for the grappler.
For my part, I don't like standups, but I like yellow cards and $$$ penalties for being truly inactive (regardless of where). I'm of the opinion that this sport is about who the better fighter is, and regardless of how awesome your striking, if a high school wrestler can drop you on your head and shut you down for the duration of the fight, he's the better fighter.

Psalm 144(1): Blessed be the Lord my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight.
Yeah wasn't bad.. Looks like there will be a few guys ready to bring it.
And from the sneak peeks koscheck is gonna be an idiot.
^^not hardly breaking news material....he's an idiot, I like him, he's a good heel

Lol, Palhares
Great to see nate the great get a win after that disappointment against sonnen. Cro Cop might be injured for the next fight as well, but he's still going to continue.
