Thumbs up STi To North America!

    The release is here:

    http://impreza.subaru.com/microsites.../news_main.jsp

The specs speak for themselves here:

    http://impreza.subaru.com/microsites...sti/wrxsti.jsp

    300hp, 300 ft-lbs ... DCCD ... 6 speed manual ...

Looks like they didn't cheap out on performance features like Mitsu did with the Evo ... I bet the price isn't going to be as cheap either though. LOL .. no standard audio system though.

And under that hood, is a 2.5-liter turbocharged and intercooled double overhead cam 4-cylinder boxer engine versus the 2.0-liter engine found on the WRX. It's teamed with a close ratio six-speed manual transmission—the only transmission available on STi. And performance? How about 300 horsepower at 6,000 rpm. And 300 lb.-ft. of torque at 4,000 rpm. This advanced powerplant features forged aluminum alloy pistons, forged high carbon steel connecting rods and sodium filled exhaust valves. It also features Subaru Active Valve Control System, or AVCS—a variable valve timing system to optimize torque throughout the power band. The larger capacity intercooler includes a manually operated water spray feature for additional cooling when needed.
is this for real? they are putting the 2.5L engine in the sti?

I haven't found pricing yet either ... I think we can safely expect it to be more than the Evolution. They don't want to have the STi in the same price bracket as the base WRX.

Yeah, that's prolly why the power ratings are higher than Europe and Japan.

Hey hey, that's a cheap shot.

Don't forget the big disclaimer at the bottom of the specs list...

Specific options may be available only in combination with other options. Specific combinations of equipment or features may vary from time to time and by geographic area. Colors shown may vary due to reproduction and publication processes. "

The new headlights look way, way better though.

So who wants to bet which car will be more expensive... EVO or WRX STi? My money's on the Subaru being more $$$.

i find it real hard to believe they are putting a 2.5L into the sti.... the sti has always had the 2.0L engine......

almost guaranteed the STi will be more.

good catch on the disclaimer .. I didn't even notice it ... I suspect the response Mitsu got from the Evo being released forced Subaru to announce something about the STi a little prematurly.

I still like the Evo better ... but until I can test drive them both, I'm undecided.

At least the Evo has a radio and CD player!

That's probably how they kept the hp up without sacrificing emissions. (whereas Evo kept the same displacement but had to sacrifice some power to meet emissions). Besides, its not like the 2.5L is a new engine... they just forged some new internals for it and put a turbo system on it.

Most likely. I'd like to keep it and turn it into a rally car or track car, but I don't think there will be space available in my garage for two cars. Anyone want a solo ready RS?

Subaru has been sitting on information about the north american spec STi for months now, waiting to see what mitsu is going to do. Looks like they rather nicely stole mistus thunder
