Cut a small piece of drywall to fill in the hole, then plaster it in place

cut out a chunk of the drywall and get a few scraps of wood.

say a 1 foot by one foot section.

put the wood behid the existing drywall and screw it in so that the wood is showing in the hole you cut out (is should be at the back of the drywall) do that on either side

then cut a new piece to go in (11 7/8 inches by 11 7/8 inches)

put it in the hole and screw it to the wood that you mounted. (you should now have a 1/8 gap to fill arountd the new chunk of drywall) you can use drywall tape and mud to fill that gap, but makes sure you put it on lightly so you can blend it into the existing wall.

sand it down prime and paint.

and learn not to punch walls.
