    Default Ex-smokers?

Well, I decided it was time to kick the habit. I've been smoke free for just over 36 hours now. I know, nothing to brag about but its a start. I've been smoking for the past 5 years of my life. When I was 15 I thought smoking was cool

Any tips or advice from any of you that have kicked the habit? I'm trying to avoid using the patch, gum or zyban. But I have been chewing regular gum pretty much non-stop.

Oh, and just to clarify- I meant cigarettes

I was never a smoker but I've helped friends quit.

Chew as much gum as possible! It's great to try and stop cold turkey but you might cheat a few times, that's ok. Don't buy a pack. If you are really really craving and have to cheat just bum a smoke off of someone.

    You can do it.

Put a little sign or sticker on your wallet or something so that if you're ever tempted to buy a pack you won't.

Juts keep at it, get a friend to kick your ass if they ever see you smoking.

I think I'll actually do it this time because now I want to quit. I think the hardest thing is being around my friends. Most of them smoke, but I think I'll be okay. I warned them all not to let my buy smokes already. And told them not to bum me smokes either.

I'm finding its as much of a phsycological addiction aswell as a physical one...

Nice job man. I never smoked ever, I have never even had a cigarette, although I have smoked a few cigars.

Its a great habit to kick.

all good ideas but the girlfriend ons the worst. I have to say from experience. I have been smoking since gr. 7 (made the wrong friends in junior high) so that makes it 4 and a half years now. I have been able to but down to lighter smokes and have been able to go the odd month untill a friend of mine asks if I want a smoke. But with the girlfriends, god there is nothing more that makes you feel like shit than being dumped when you think everything was going well. for me smoking is a way to feel better. I am attempting to quit again but at school when you go by the smokers it make you want to jump and steal a smoke from them.

well its beed 2 weeks since i have gotten a pack and i have 1 piece of advice besides gun, put your mind on something else, like what you want doen to your car next, girls, listen to music, or anything else that keeps your mind occuied. well i hope youo have good success and keep your mind occupied.

Thanks for all the advice/support. I have been staying home lately to avoid the smoky bars/pubs/clubs. I'm actually having a great time at home surfing beyond again and reading through my course books.

I'm finding the hardest thing so far is driving, but instead of sparking a smoke- I pop in a piece of gum

You should buy a pack of smokes (or if you still have one sitting around), but do something really disgusting to them like rub the tips up your nose or a cat's ass or something (how many smokes are in a pack? that's gonna be one pissed off cat!). Each time you grab for it, you'll remember you did something fucked up to it and you'll be temporarily too disgusted to want it. Shock therapy!

Sure, it's a digusting solution, but then again, smoking is a digusting habit! Hahaha!

Don't use zyban.. my dad used it when he tried to quit and he was moody as hell.. he got about 2.5 hours of sleep a night and it reflected in his moods. Just my $0.02.

I have heard both good and bad things about zyban. It was originally used as an anti-depressant. Many of the smokers began to quit, blah, blah, blah. So, zyban became marketed towards smokers.

Basically- if you don't need anti-depressants zyban will mess you right up, but- if you are or should be on anti-depressants you can quite posibly kill two birds with one stone

I want to try cold-turkey before resorting to anything like the patch or nicorette.

The only way that I could afford to mod my car was to quit. So I quit and put a turbo on my car, lol That was good motivation to stay quit!

Buy a pack of smokes. Let it sit somewhere for a few weeks than have a ciggerette. You'll kick the habit so fast, cause then your ciggerettes are stale and gross. You'll have one and go, yuck, and never have another one ever again haha
