Never been to Pho Pasteur though.
I only go to Pasteur if I'm craving Pho and I'm in Chinatown.
normally i stick to the Pho in Forest Lawn
I second that. I go to the one in Chinatown, and they have a sign "Best Pho in Calgary" or something like that, so it better be good to have a sign like that! And the ghetto "patio" in the mall just adds to the experience.Originally posted by shandi

The best spring rolls are that place on Centre St by the Mazda next to the Greek place... can never remember the name (cuz I'm not Viet). They're the double-fried stuff like back home in Richmond at Pho Lan...mmmmmmmm.
I'm always lookin for better tho! What cracks me up is all the caucasians I work with who say Saigon Y2K is the nuts...hahahha... they have no idea.
best place imo is pho xuan. The only downside is that it's usually packed and they are cash only..
the pho at binh minh is good too. When i'm there, i usually end up getting the bun bo hue tho.
my personal fav is pho xuan ...but I frequent Viet Hai however it's kind of a hit or miss with this one...
Pho Xuan - what's that sauce that they have at the tables (its brown and sweet)

Saigon Palace is our usual spot and Saigon Y2K during the lunch hours. What I really like is the peanut sauce at Y2K. The PHO is ok but Saigon Palace has the best of any of the places I have tried so far.

Pho 88 on 17th SE!!! The best spring rolls by far and their satay is actually spicy. After that, I'd say the Pho place in Huntington by the Crappy Tire. Pho Rang Dong used to be good, but I think they changed owners or something... Haven't gone in a while.
clem..
You have a couple of photos that are great... you must be very good at photoshop!
I gotta know, as a dumb white guy, what's wrong with Oriental Pheonix? It's pretty much my favorite place to eat, yet everyone here bashes it. I've tried a few others, including Bagolac(close except for the Noc cham) Pho Hoi in southland crossing, Vietnamese Village and none are as good. Is it just price? I don't mind paying a little extra for good food.
Please, fill me in!
oriental phoenix was once upon a time a good vietnamese restaurant (when they were one location in little saigon mall). The food was good at a reasonable price.
Now the portions are small, the price is higher and it seems like you're paying more for atmosphere then good food (which isn't very good anymore).
I find the food is now very bland w/o much flavor. Instead of the guys wife cooking, they probably have someone who has never been to Vietnam cooking vietnamese food
