Question Does the Tornado air thing work? Or have suggestions to boost gas mileage

I was thinking of getting the tornado air thing and was wondering if it works. I drive a chevy silverado (2001) with the small v8 (4.8L). I want better gas mileage, but added power would be a good bonus Thinking about a k&n drop in too. Does anyone know of anything else that could boost mileage.

Better mileage from a V8 powered pickup? Trade it in for an Insight. Seriously though, those tornado things are total snake oil, and probably do more harm than good in terms of air flow.

He's saying if it technically did give more air, the ECU then would give more fuel to compensate.

If you want better gas mileage, get new spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a to go further get a perfomance distributor. Oh and pick up the K&N too.

yeah....so fuel milage is always inverse to horsepower. so when that informercial is saying increase horsepower and increase fuel milage, that's a lie.
    dont bother with it.

not necessarily so...if your engine is in a poor state of tune and running inefficiently, ie very rich, mileage and horsepower are both sacrificed

and correcting this problem, mileage and horsepower would no doubt increase

What does the tornado thingy claim to do? Swirl the air so that when the air hits the combustion chamber it mixes with the fuel better to get a more efficent burn, thereby increasing your gas mileage and benifiting from more power. You drive a chevy truck with a VORTEC engine, an engine with a head already designed to swirl the air entering the combustion chamber, so no you do not need one, your motor is already doing it for you.

The Tornado has nothing to do with more air, or more fuel. It was designed on a very sound basis for airflow into the cylinder, but executed very poorly. In most cases by the time the air that has been 'swirled' by the tornado reaches the cylinder it has already smoothed out again because of the distance it has to travel and various other devices that stand in it's way affecting the airflow, ie throttle plates/butterflies and intake valves.

u both need to think a little....when your engine is more powerful, it takes less throttle to go a certain speed. less throttle = more fuel efficient.

changing your fuel filter and intake might help. Iridium or Platinum spark plugs a must to combust more efficent.
