They aren't necessarily capped, but they are stuck with a 30mm inlet restrictor on the turbo that prevents getting much more than that. Most teams sandbag and underrate the motors anyways.
Drag racing is for fast cars. Solo 2 is for fast drivers.

Its a World Rally Championship car, intended for competition use only, not a street vehicle you can run down to the dealership and buy (well, you could get one from prodrive if you had about 500000 pound sterling or so).

And any Ferrari, Porsche, or McLaren with a top speed of 230 kph would be considered "frickin" pathetic.

AWD launch aside, the difference is just gearing. Gear any vehicle to a narrower range and it's going to perform better within that range.

Yes, because a rally car needs instant acceleration in most situations, not ripping top end and sustained high speeds, so the gears are really short (hence the 230kph top speed).

I don't think the WRX is any less of a car than the others. In fact, I think rally is one of the most exciting types of racing around, surpassed only by marathon events like the Dakar. I have a great respect for vehicles which can take so much abuse on such poor terrain yet perform so well, and the drivers, who frequently roll their cars or even go over cliffs.

Anyways, I wanted to share my favourite WRC story, it was speed vision coverage of a rally in New Zealand about 3 years ago, I forget the driver. Anyways, they were doing about 200 kph on a straight gravel road in the middle of a flat green medow. All of a sudden, this big fat white cotton ball hits the windscreen and explodes, leaving the front of the car covered in red jam.

Announcer #1: Oh no! What was that!

Announcer #2: In a place with nearly 50 million sheep, you knew they were bound to hit at least one.
