    Default Conserve water!

The City of Calgary will most likely be introducing a Stage 4 Water Restriction by later tonight due to the SEVERE shortage of clean water. Please, conserve your water consumption where possible.

A brick to those who are washing their cars or watering their lawns today! The car wash bay was full of inconsiderate people on my way to work today.

If you want to, you can complain...by all means. The fines are between $500 and $2000.

I have never wasted water so im good. I did wash the car yesterday though at the pay and spray, but I only spent like a buck as usual so its barely anything to complain about.

Well, we can't stop everybody, but we can stop some people from using too much water.

It's funny because Global caught a whole bunch a people on camera at the wash bays and watering their lawns.

Most carwashes recycle the water they use anyway. That still doesn't give people an excuse.

Are you sure they recycle the water? Like, they have their own water treatment facilities? I always wondered if they use some kind of second grade water or something.

I washed my car after the cruise last night! I didnt know there was a water ban!! Then I felt bad when I watched the news when I came in!

Well, you shouldn't go to a car wash...but the way things look now, there's people talking about car washes being shut down if the consumption levels continue to rise.

Yeah, on the news this morning they had a shot of the river and were telling people about conserving water but in the shot the sprinklers were on. And of all places too...right by the river! LOL

I know that apartment building too. I was talking to the one of the firemen and he told me they cannot access the sprinkler valves as they are in the parkade, which is completely submerged.

Under a Stage IV restriction, any outdoor watering is prohibited. And if they catch you washing your car in a car-wash, they'll probably err on the side of ticketing your ass.

Edit: According to the City's website, demand is running about 500 ML/day, and production is sitting at 450 ML/day. In 36 - 48 hours, if this keeps up, they'll start rationing water by cutting off large users.

Subject: Mayor's News Conference 12 noon today
    From: Brenda Polegi

    -----BEGIN MD5 -----------------------------------

    -----------------------------------------------------------------
CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
    -----------------------------------------------------------------

Calgary 2005, 20 June – At a news conference held at noon
today, Mayor Dave Bronconnier emphasized the importance of
citizens continuing with restricting water consumption as
water usage exceeds water production by the treatment plants.
If improvements are not seen, The City will need to move to
    water rationing.

The City of Calgary issued a citywide Stage 4 water shortage
mandatory water restriction at 12:01 a.m. today prohibiting
    all outdoor watering.

The restriction includes: the watering of lawns, gardens,
trees and shrubs; the washing down of sidewalks, walkways,
driveways and building surfaces; and the use of water
    fountains.

Violations of the restriction may lead to fines ranging from
    $500 to $2,000.

Currently, the demand is 500 mega litres and available
storage capacity is 370 mega litres. Production is 450 mega
litres. The City is unable to keep production above demand
unless citizens restrict their water consumption. Demand is
outstripping production by 50 mega litres per day. The result
is that in 36 to 48 hours, The City will need to shut off
    water to large users.

Water production is limited by high levels of silt and debris
in the Elbow and Bow Rivers, the raw water sources for The
City’s two water treatment plants, Glenmore and Bearspaw.

The City is also urging Calgarians to voluntarily minimize
their indoor water consumption by limiting showers to five
minutes, keeping baths shallow, using full loads for washing
clothes and dishes, and turning off the tap while shaving or
    brushing teeth.

I washed my truck last night -- didnt even know about the water ban. I got home and felt like shit after I turned on the news...

Hopefully people listen up now and take it easy. If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown - flush it down!!

Homer: We got a rule back home: If it's brown drink it down, if it's black send it back.

I work at the City and we have an internal e-mail floating around. Basically, this is a very serious situation. If it gets any worse, major steps will be taken to conserve water. I hope the rest of the City wakes up...
