    Default Crossing US border (BC-Washington)

What do you need in order to pass the US border? I'm hearing alot of stories, but really, what do you need?

License and birth certificate or proof of citizenship.

I don't know if you need your passport yet, but there was talk of Canadians being required to have a passport soon.

    Passport would be hassle free.

I was in the states last year and at that time all I needed was a _VALID_ drivers licence _AND_ birth certificate _OR_ canadian citizenship card. Passport will also work but was not required at that time.

edit: the three other people I was with all had passports, I didnt get hassled or questioned any more than they did.

When we were in Vegas this past February we were advised that we should have a Passport. I guess its up to the discretion of the US Customs Officer.

If you have a Passport you might as well use that since its much more of a "guaranteed" entry into the United States.

I travel to the States frequently, from the Alberta/Montana borders...

A birth certificate and driver's license are useful, but for the most hassle free person, use your passport. They will ask you a few questions and such. Just be straightforward and polite and you'll be fine.

It isn't law to have a passport yet. They are considering passing that law, but right now a birth certificate/proof of citizenship and VALID goverment issued photo ID (Driver's licence) are all that's needed. Passports are always more hassel free though

I just took that pass three weeks ago with just my driver's license. No problems for my buddy & I getting through but they did search his van and toss a $20 bag of Longview beef jerky in the garbage.

Last time my gf and I crossed the border through Creston, all we needed were our driver's licenses. However, whenever I fly to the States, I always bring my passport.
